Hi

Does anyone know anything about this particular Normark Avenger it has sliding reel seat, black whipping with red band and a bulb end to the cork handle

From what I can find in the internet it's a Mk1, does that seem right?

Yes, I have one but mine has a screw down reel seat which may be a slightly later version. I think it's usually referred to as the 1000 series. They are fantastic rods IMO.

It may well be yours is the original Avenger Dave and mine is the 1000. Its definitely not a MK 2 as they have black whippings with green trim (original Mk2) or black whippings with gold trim (later Mk 2).

I've got some of these Dave, not sure if they're mk1s, black with red whipping and sliding reel seats. They are fantastic float rods for barbel
 
It's the first version. If it wasn't it should be fairly obvious. Versions that followed were the 1000, 2000, 3000, MKII (early, black whipping with green tippet) and MKII (late, black whipping with gold tippet). All of the later versions had screw winch reel seats.
