Hi Cliff
I used to use Tares for various fish and would soak in salt water overnight then add any additional flavours (they take flavour well) before boiling in the same way as Hemp, although you do not want them to split if possible. Keep doing a "pinch test" by squeezing between your thumb and fore finger until they feel soft but firm.
Hope that helps
It’s very easy to overcook them, particularly if you intend to use them on yer ook. Soak overnight, bring to the boil and simmer until you can just about squeeze one between thumb and finger. Take off, strain and run under cold water to stop them cooking any more. If you keep some of the water back you used to boil them, they can be added back to this once it has cooled to help store them etc.
