Tackle box rods, Any good

Iain Tutt

Senior Member
Am thinking of buying one of these. Tackle box Darent valley 11ft 1.25lb twin tip Avon rod. Very hard to find any feedback on their rods. Has anyone used or seen one.

Hi Iain, I have heard some very good comments on them. Tried to buy one that was out of stock and asked them to e-mail me when available. Never received an e-mail, so never pursued it.

Hi Iain

There's a poster on the Maggotdrowner website who seems to really know his rods, I've bought a couple of rods on his recommendation and he speaks very highly of them:

"Take a look at the darent Valley rods sold by the tackle box in Dartford they do a good selection of specialist rods every bit as good if not better than the drennans and about half the price, I have the 11ft 0.75lb tc and it is superb"

Maggotdrowner is a good place to go to for advice for this sort of thing, it's full of matchmen who know their onions

Dave. for some reason ive been banned from their site. Only every made one post on there to say hell. Perhaps the administration doesn't like happy people.

Have been on Tackle Boxes website but there's only little pictures

A mate has one of these rods Iain and rates it very highly. Well made, nice action.:)

I've got to ask, where the blazes is Seal Island :)

Seal Island is the old name for Selsey West Sussex. Years ago from around 900AD till around 150 years ago the beaches were covered in matting Seals. Locals still call Selsey the Island even though most of the land has been reclaimed now.

Thanks for that Iain...never too old to learn and you've taught me something there. :)

Simon Lush had some good things to say about the 0.75lb Darenth Valley Specialist rods on here a while back, for perch that is.

My experience of the Tackle Box own brands is that they are well designed and good value for money. I've got one of the TB marker rods (which I use as a spomb rod) and it's brilliant.

Lots of positive comments about the TB Darent Valley rods on Fishing Magic.

Chris, seems the Derwent rods come recommended from the thread i read on FM. Also the John Wilson Avon/Quiver in whatever guise gets a bit of a put-down. I had a MK1 Green version many moons ago and thought i was a good rod. Quality must have gone right down

Iain, the John Wilson Rovex ones get a bit of a hammering but the Masterline originals were better. However, there were so many variations of the earlier models that it depends on which one you have. I have two different models which are like chalk and cheese. One is a superb through action rod whereas the other is much more tippy. Keep hold of your own if you like it and don't be too swayed by any threads.

Mine had a nice through action bit like a cane rod. Sold many years ago which i regret now

There are quite a few threads that feature the Darent Valley rods on FM. As for the John Wilson rods, not everyone liked them, even the supposedly better early Masterline versions. I count myself among those that never understood the fuss. However, there's plenty of love for the JW rods on FM.

Also worth looking on the anglers forum (formerly Cemex) for Darent Valley love.;):D

Strange, they're a nice bunch on there. I donate but they don't chuck you off if you don't

I love the amount of knowledge that people have about all sorts of gear on there, and on here come to that

Just don't understand why. I only sad "hi am Iain from so and so" The next time i logged in i couldn't. Emailed Amin with no reply. Tried logging in many time with the correct name and password but no luck. Even tried with my maggot email

My lovely eldest son, i have to call him lovely because he's going to buy me the TB rod for Christmas.

My mate has the 0.75 tc he uses for roach, and for the money they feel excellent,he loves them

There's a 0.75lb tc on maggotdrowner classified for 8 whole pounds at the moment, collect from Coventry
