Swans attacked in crossbow horror at Throop Mill

Whether mindless idiot cretins or our eastern european friends they need bloody stringing up.......

scum bags

would this of happened in the season when us angler's would of been frequenting the bank's!
while were not about all wildlife is under threat from mindless idiots, poaching, predation:mad:

Yes, it is evil....very, very sad indeed. it is also sad that anglers will probably get blamed for this, because the swan protection people seem to see anglers as enemy number one in issues of this nature. Saddest of all is the fact that the scumbag minority in our ranks have probably made that a fairly reasonable stance

Cheers, Dave.

Why should anglers get blamed for this Dave?? I dnt remember ever fishing with a crossbow, or are you saying that because a swan was killed anglers are going to be associated with its death by proxy??

Remember the case a couple of years ago on the Gt Ouse ? 30 swans killed and buried by those that shoot the land, anglers initially blamed, went to court and oh, the police lost vital evidence and they got off
Whatever the reasons, whoever did it should be punished by court of law,,,,,,,, are they not the birds of the realm ?

String the B**t**ds up that is what I say................

I'm afraid to say that we are public enemy no. 1 within swan rescue centers Patrict.
My local club donated £300 to the local swan santuary a couple of years ago and never recieved a thankyou,..unlike local cancer hospices.
I don't think we should beat ourselves up over this depressing episode as we all know that it was probally either mindless cruelty or a failed attempt by someone after a free lunch.

But if we keep glossing over on the subject we wont get anywhere, we need to PROMOTE angling and what we are about not accept that we may have the odd bad apple amongst us

Absolutely Patrick. I don't remember ever fishing with a gun either...but I recall an incident many years ago (around the time when swans were suffering ill effects from ingesting lead shot aurally) when a swan was shot with a gun (air rifle I think)...and the local 'swan lady' inferred that it was probably anglers removing a 'nuisance swan' during the closed season, or words to that effect. As has been said, it isn't fair to blame all anglers for the crimes of the inevitable few planks in our midst, nor blame us as a group for crimes that almost undoubtedly were committed by others...but it sadly is a fact.

Swan rescue societies deal with swans with hook lengths hanging out of their beaks (hooks firmly fixed in the swans tongues, beaks...or worse still in their throats) on an almost daily basis. They also have numerous cases of swans with yards of discarded line (with or without hooks) tangled around their legs, feet, wings, necks...you name it. In the past, they had to deal with swans dying from lead ingestion, picked up with stones they swallow for digestive purposes. In short, these people have good reason to associate anglers with harm to swans...and they seem to almost automatically blame us for any injured swans brought to them, however illogical a particular occasion may seem to us.

There has been work done by anglers and angling clubs, societies etc. in the way of education and offers of help (financially or otherwise) to swan rescue type societies...but there is so much adverse stuff going on it would take an awful lot of such work to reverse the mind set of these people. Hardly surprising though, is it?

Cheers, Dave.

Things like this happen because our namby pamby judicial system and laws allow it to.

The law makers need to get a grip, dish out savage sentences that only the the insane would risk by committing such acts, and i'm talking sentences for crimes like this that for a young man would mean his life is wrecked ! and for someone over 30 forget it son - you're never walking the streets this side of 80 again !

That's being conservative - because i really would like to string them up - I'll do it ! no problem - old style not the drop.

This sort of thing, and more so violence against people has got to the stage it has because successive governments have allowed it to, even engineered the situation i think ! How could they ever think we would be anywhere other than the situation we have now in this country with the continual erosion of the severity of punishments under the law, you can take someone's life let alone a Swans, and be out in 3 or 4 years - These people have no fear of the law, they stick their middle finger up at it ! It's insanity !!
God knows where it will end !:mad:

A swan has been shot by a crossbow and the response on here from John is a racist one as he thinks it could have been EE’s. Nick does not care what country they come from as long as they are hanged. Dave thinks it was someone who was looking for a free lunch but does not recommend a punishment. Ian favours “wrecking their lives†and also a good slow hanging which he is prepared to do himself.

Can you not all take a long look at yourselves and understand that such comments are ridiculous and make you every bit as culpable as the moron who shot the swan. Your only way to respond to an act of violence is to perform a similar act of violence yourselves. Mr Ghandi was certainly right when he said “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blindâ€.

I also find it interesting that as soon as I point out that choosing an umbrella is not terribly difficult I immediately get a slap from the mod’s, however they do nothing to stop this sort of drivel that only takes angling further into disrepute.

Richard
While I broadly agree with your stance on most things, I find your flippant comments about umbrellas antagonistic. Without very careful selection and advice from knowledgeable sources you may find yourself lumbered with the likes of that death trap I tried to unload on you.

was this done by some double glazing workers from little chalfont...

What gets me is that a crossbow isn't a weapon that you can conceal easily. This means that some cretin has the balls to walk around with it. Not good at all

Richard,
Where did I mention country in my post?
We all are expressing our views on an open forum, that is what they are for are they not? You are entitled to yours as well but please do not resort to calling fellow BFW members "morons" I for one do not put myself in the same light as the idiot(s) that did this.
My view is that for whatever the reason and whoever did it should be punished, it may only be a swan but how the hell does it warrant being shot with a sodding crossbow?

Ghandi also said It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.
