Supporting local tackle shops

as stated by alot of other people i will allways support my local tackle shop (only today i spent £49 there) unfortunatley with todays mobile and internet world people are very demanding and unwilling to wait for a personal face to face service that so many shops give, unfortunatley these shops can,t compete with some bloke selling gear from his front room or garden shed and they can,t possibly stock every item you need, i am a self employed plumber and i get phone calls from people daily wanting stuff done as cheap as possible and they want you there yesterday and will phone around until they get the result regardless, these same people no doubt shop on the internet scouring the bargains then moan when they walk down the local high street looking like a ghost town cos all the shops are boarded up as they have no customers
you should be supporting your local traders as much as you can including tackle shops
my local is lobbys in stonehouse
they are allways helpful and stock a good range and also have a coffee machine encouraging you just to pop in for a chat and browse

local

Was in my local shop today and what you get is good conversation a few decent chapps in today ,barring the food supplier where was he ? Its always been freindly for agood few years with the managers they have had and always good for putting ideas to each other which is very rarely taken on board, but always a good laugh with each other, without these shops life would be so dull having to look at a screen deciding what you wanted,so get in there and have the crack!

yes you can get it cheaper on ebay, but what happens when it goes wrong, will he send it back on your behalf, will he give you customer support, probally not, each to there own but i would rather pay alittle more for my stuff knowing that help is at hand as when i snapped a section of a new pole, my shop sent it back a got a replacement free of charge, i couldn,t ask for more no hassle and sorted quickly without cost to me
maybe i,m just lucky to have a good shop nearby:)

true, but i've never had a problem buying online myself.

You've never had a problem with the British postal service or a carrier then ? you either buy very little or you have been very lucky ! Mind you once the High speed rail links are finished that should help make transporting post around the country a bit quicker and more reliable won't it ! i suppose we should all embrace progress, whatever the cost eh?

Spot on post that mate, Maybe when all the high streets are made up of Poundshops, cash converters, end of line DISCOUNT stores and probably anyone who sells LCD screens in their various forms then we'll all be happy.

nope, never.

So because he never had a very specific item that you needed (It would be impossible to stock every bead/stop/sleeve etc etc etc that someone might just come in and ask for) you aren't going to use him any more ? Bit short sighted innit ?
Can't believe some of the posts on this thread, my local shop J+K is great , i.ve always had good friendly service from them, ok they sometimes don't have what i want but thats fine, i'll then either go elsewhere or wait for them to get it for me.I repeat, they CANNOT POSSIBLY stock every item thats on the market and neither can some internet company.

And of course going in to J & K is entertaining in it's own right! I love that shop though I don't go to Bicester much. They do stock a great range of stuff as do Castaways in Banbury. In fact I have never failed to get what I want in Castaways, it reminds me of when J & K was in Sheep Street, a little Aladdins cave. Both excellent shops and both active in online sales.

You mean Wesley lane Alex ?

Is it? I thought it was Sheep Street, when it was down the little alleyway by Tescos, but I stand corrected.
I well recall one day going in there with my mate and Merv said "is it raining out there?"
"no, why?
"Because you Banbury ******* only come in here to keep dry!!"

Happy days!

Afraid only use my local shop in absolute emergency , I know they have to make a living but he charges top prices for everything , his maggots area £1 pint more than shop I have to pass to most of my fishing , get most of my stuff online now , its a shame as when I lived in Sheffield spent hours in local tackle shop talking fishing and stuff and drinking coffee , this guy dont indulge in such things unless its a match angler talking to him about commercials

Surely it goes without saying that supporting your local shop is the sensible way to go....for our own sakes, if nothing else. If these shops do eventually all close down, it will make things very much harder for all of us. It doesn't take a genius to work it out...for a start, just think of all those last minute dashes to the shop on the day for the vital item you forgot. Try doing that on the internet :p Also, as many have said, there is nothing better than standing with a couple of like minded mates in a well run, sensibly priced and stocked shop, having a pee take and a chin wag with the friendly manager over a cup of tea of coffee he has kindly provided :D

Shops like that deserve to survive and hopefully will....but they are the ideal, and an awful lot of shops fall far short of that. Why should anyone have to put up with an a-hole of a manager with a couldn't care less, take it or leave it attitude....poor stocks of stupidly over priced gear, unfriendly opening hours, and all the other problems others have listed here. These guys don't deserve to stay in business, whatever business that may be...and nobody should feel guilty for not supporting them.

Equally, the guy who has a decent shop locally, but who deliberately ignores it to shop on line in the often very mistaken belief that he is getting everything cheaper...is in my opinion very short sighted indeed....and may eventually cost us all dearly

Cheers, Dave.

Im lucky really my local shop is fantastic a get good discount on all things i buy ive been goin there for years and i always get a brew wen i go in.

Quick question How far do you guys have to travel to the tackle shop that you use?
