Supersized supermoon!

Had me smiling that Anthony, reminded me that it was always a subject for great debate when crossing the equator on ships. As the only bath on Merchant ships was usually in the Captain's cabin it generally remained unproven one way or the other!

It's going (forecast) to be 13 degrees in the day and 11 degrees overnight on Monday, up here in the North West. No need for thermals I'd suggest, and definitely worth a go. I've booked Tuesday off now so going regardless. Please no more 'snow melt' negativity! :)

Can someone explain, in simple terms, what effect this super moon should have on my fishing on Monday.
1. Does it get the fish feeding.
2. If so, is it only at night, or will the effect be seen during the day on Monday and Tuesday.
3. Does the effect work on still waters and rivers or is it really only salt water related.
Sorry, but I am always sceptical about this sort of thing.

I've no idea really Mike but I offer that my koi are still feeding hard despite the recent frosts here on the west coast!

If it's none tidal. Not a lot. If its tidal, a large spring tide and I'm some areas a decent Bore or Aegir. That's the beauty of tidal locations it certainly mixes it up. There is a high water every 12 hours 24 as the moon orbits our merry land.

You have to be realistic though and my local rivers were icy torrents yesterday, but above all the whole flow from surface to river bed was solid with extra leaves washed in by the rising waters. Fished 4 houurs just cos I'd made the journey and it was nice to be out, but the chances of a bite seemed minimal.

Night fishing is a lot less relaxing when you have to reel in every 5 minutes to de-leaf. If I left it 10 minutes I had about 80 pieces of vegetation on the line, lead and bait.

And the rivers are still rising.

And for that reason I'm out. Or not out tomorrow.

But if your local rivers are looking better then good luck folks!!

The Aire & Wharfe are past their peak as of Sunday morning. The rivers i fancied for tomorrow night are still peaking.

Indeed you do, Graham - be realistic, that is. I'm going to hope, rather than expectation. Mind you, that phrase defines every fishing trip I make anyway, so if I catch I'll be happy; if I blank I'll be (only slightly less) happy. The Dove is my destination.
