any ideas on what i can do about it ?

Hi Ya Darren
Try taking the in side out and just giving it a clean & dry I find I have do this a couple of times a season once it starts getting a bit damp. If that dosn't work check that the thread / locking piece on the end of the inner peice has not be come stuck. If it has just loosen it a little but not to much other wise you can't get it back in. I di mine so as it just fits back in then it locks fine.

I had a similar thread, only a few weeks ago, my insert/widget had cracked. All i did was ring Drennan up and they sent me a replacement insert, and returning the broken one to themselves in a SAE.
I think this is the number; 01865748989

Darren,

I posted the message below a short while back but have cut and pasted it for you.

Drenan Super Specialist. Had a few problems with mine sticking I but took it apart and cleaned it the other day, I also rubbed the surfaces of the spreader with some coarse grit paper which has given it much better bite on the inner wall of the handle, then greased the thread and working all hunky-dory again.

I'll add here though that you'll probably find that it has not threaded at all, but rather the spreader is slipping agains the inside edge of the outer tube. To fix it you just need to stop it from slipping. To get it apart you can either force it out from the top end (not the best way) or alternatively, undo the bottom cap and try to push it through the bottom. The area you need to key up is the outer-most faces of the round spreader block. Hope this helps.

I wish i'd never bought mine. Very poor quality for the price. The only poor bit of Drennan kit i've ever owned though.
Gap in the market for a good quality handle methinks.......

IMO they are the best on the market, so good i bought 2. I have never had a problem with mine at all; except when i gave it my mate to extend and tighten up, only for him to seriously over tighten it resulting in splitting the widget.

Had mine for 2 seasons now, bought it for some particularly high banks, it works well enough and is as strong as I'll ever need. However it does tend to slip or not fully lock if when wet I retract it after landing a fish, as fully extended it's a bit unwieldy in undergrowth. I usually dismantle it, remove the rubber end cap and rod it through (like you clean a gun) with a rag using the inner. Then wipe the inner. Once dry it locks again. Once the inside gets wet it is a problem to adjust and then lock, so I try not to adjust it once I have extended it at the start of a session. I've got used to it now.

Not that I'm defending Drennan for something that should not happen to a supposably high quality product, but I have been told that provided you only 'nip it up' when locking it and don't overtighten, it will last a lifetime!! Don't know about that but so far, following this advice i have had no problems!

Chaps, as I said, just key the outside edge of the block up. Imagine a bald tyre on a wet road and that's what's happening to the spreader block inside the handle when it's wet. Once it's roughened up a little it's fine. Had no problems since I done mine a year or so back.

Thanks for the info Haydn, just having problems with mine after 2 years of trouble free use, will follow your tip.

thankyou all...i think ive over tightened it as the threads have worn.

thanks again
