Strong Maggot Hook

It's been an interesting return to river fishing this season and luckily most of my previously 'discarded box' carp terminal tackle has been re-used to good effect.

That being said the rig I've had most success with by far (for barbel and chub) is ye olde Mag aligner, and the hooks I've been using (don't think they are available anymore) are ESP Big-T's (in size 6 & 4) . . .which I've now run out of. To fair whilst they are strong they're not ideal (still quite a heavy gauge for hooking maggots directly) and the straight point can blunt easily in a snaggy river so looking for a better pattern . . .needs to be

1 - Strong / Sharp
2 - Thin gauge (to alleviate bursting maggots)
3 - Pref beaked point
4 - Medium shank
5 - In larger sizes (to counterbalance buoyant aligner maggot)

Any thoughts?

They look good but size 8 is the biggest? Prefer to use big hooks full stop as I don't think it affect this specific rig . . .

Thanks Graham & Dave -

Those 983's look ideal - not bothered about the slightly out-turned eye as the plastic maggot will sleeve over it - won't be using sizes smaller than a 6 so hopefully the gauge will still be wire-like but a bit heftier . .£1.80 a pack is also a steal comparatively!

Will also try the Barbel Maxx although they look very similar to the once 'holy' Korda Wide gape of which I still have a huge unused collection (esp in size 8) so using these at the moment for all my other hair rigs / boilie and paste fishing . . .

Drennan Super Spades. I've always used these without any failings, ever since they first appeared on the market. There longevity on the market place speaks volumes.
