Still a place for a lump of luncheon meat

Sausages should work? Long time ago I tried a paste made from sausage meat and breadcrumbs for carp and it did work but it was so soft you could only lower it in to the margins. I’d have thought a piece of sausage would work pretty well for barbel ?

In support of meat. Having come back to fishing last year after 20 + yrs lots had changed. Pellets were coming into the match fishing scene and a gallon of caster was out. Boilies ( never fished one ) were big in the carp world but for me back then it was meat, worm or maggots. Last year (only on the wye at Lucksall and stacklands had 13 barbel , a couple of doubles....all too meat barring one to a bunch of maggot. This year fished the same venues from 15th to the 19th September + field farm, only with meat ( large and not so large) 18 barbel for the week. When the chub were a nuisance I tried pepperoni and large pellets. No barbel and no faith in the baits. I suppose it comes down to confidence. Having spent a previous life, changing baits, hooks and hooklengths I keep it as simple as possible. If you believe your fishing in the right place, in the right way sooner or later that tip will move. Ps all were drop backs. I found asda luncheon meat works for me. Will be back on the wye in a week or so for round 2 this season 😃
