Stewed wheat

Used it years ago for Roach and Bream with some success, wondered if anyone has tried it barbel fishing.

Had quite a few carp in the distant past over wheat. Used in conjunction with other ground bait bulking agents like vitalin & pigeon conditioner, as well as hemp, for a cheap plentiful base.

Yes, the first time I ever used wheat for barbel I had a 7 pounder within minutes of casting in. I've not used it since though!

I caught some small barbel while float fishing wheat for roach from the Trent, years ago. I have also caught lots of barbel on tares, on float and feeder. It hasn't been the case of barbel eating anything though. On one notable occasion I caught a few barbel on feeder fished maggot then it went dead. I cut slots in the feeder, filled it with hemp and put a tare on the hook. I started catching instantly and for the rest of the day.

Tried tares last year though and I couldn't catch. Had to resort to pellets.

Like Jon; I use it to bulk out hemp seeds and micro pellet loose feed. The other thing to add is milled maize from the animal feed shop. Barbel love maize!
