Specialist Rods (1.25-1.5lbtc)

I have the free spirit e class but I find it to stiff its quite fast actioned I’ve used it on the upper Lea float and bottom fishing
I find its to heavy to hold for float fishing and the handle behind the reel is to long its a nice rod but more suited to big fish or even carp i tried the quiver section thinking it might soften it up but it really didnt suit the rod

I agree it is a stiff rod, but I don’t find it heavy. I use it for touch ledgering and rolling meat last winter, I think it is ok to hold all day long. But I am using 11ft.

Why are you saying the quiver section doesn’t suit the rod? I am thinking of getting one.
 
Yes mines 11 ft it just didn’t feel right to me the quiver tip didn’t bend into the blank nicely and with the quiver section being slightly softer it felt like it wasn’t allowing the curve to bend into the bottom half as easy I returned the section and ordered a torrix 11 1.75 and ill sell the free spirit
try and have a look at the quiver first if you can as the ring pattern didn’t match up with my rod mines a few years old and starts with a 20 then 16 on the bottom section then 12 on the top section the quiver section started with a 16 and the spacing wasn’t quite right apparently free spirit changed the ringing at some point

I think the current quiver top uses single leg ring instead of double, which is strange
 
Not planning to use this as a river float rod - pellet & margin waggler / light mag / method feeders on still waters - winter chub / small rivers with feeders in winter etc

Can any 1.5tc actually be 'stiff' in the bigger scheme of things? Stiff compared to an Avon or something else? Maybe the 12' has a bit more 'wiggle' . . .please advise before I make an error!

My Fordham 1lb test rods are 'stiff' to me.

Previously I had Simpsons carbon avons and they werent stiff at all. They were brilliant rods. But they got nicked !

It has a stiff tip, and has a semi through action. I would say the tip is about the same the Harrison 4 pc Avon, which is also 1.5lb, but the middle section is a little bit stiffer. I use both rods for same jobs, live baiting perch, tench fishing, winter chub with feeder and link ledger.
 
On the freespirit website, they describe the rod as "the tip bends nicely in both and they are relatively progressive allowing the use of light hook links for shy biting fish."

Exactly! However is this true or bs? (and I dont mean breaking strain)

I've waggled a 2.25 CTX and a Fox Horizon X4 Twin Tip 1.75/2.25 and thought these were a little wobbly for me! Surely on this basis a 1.5 will be floppy enough! Or am I comparing apples with pears?

Already got the previous issue travel (11' 5 piece Avon) version of that which I quite like but only use on hols to escape the missus and kids!
 
I honestly think the e class has to much power for that chris the only time I’ve seen the rod bend fully into the butt section was on a hard fighting 20+ carp and It still had loads more to give
For comparison i had a hi s stepped up before this rod which I found way to soft and floppy the e class is completely different
it is a nice rod but you’re not going to get much of a bend from a 5lb chub
I had a ctx 10ft feeder which I really liked and I think would be ideal for what your after

I'm aware the higher E Class tc 'carp' rods were pokers hence never even considering them historically for carp fishing; I'm trying to negate another trip to Walkers (its a dangerous and far too tempting shop to step into) however it may be the best solution. Prob is I guarantee I'll walk out with another pair of torrix or similar!

Bs, it wont register any shy bite. It is much stiffer than ctx, you won’t see huge wobble with it. It does bend nice for 5lb chub in top
middle section, as Richard said, the butt section is really strong.

Actually, what about the Advanta Discovery RVS Twin Tip Fishing Rods? I don’t have this one, but I own the 5.5ft ambush, and I am surprised by the quality.
 
There are some excellent budget rods out there, as Huan as alluded to, the 7ft Ambush rod I have is remarkable value, no need too spend a fortune these days, I appreciate its a status thing primarily in buying a top brand, but the wife will love you even more if that's possible if you go down the budget route. 😍
The Korum Allrounders are good rods too.

Good shout. I got my nephew the 11ft 1.25 Avon/Quiver for Christmas last year and it definitely looks the part considering the cost. I was quite impressed. He’s had Chub to 4lb and a few Bream using it. Certainly a more durable looking offering than the Drennan equivalent (Twin Tip Duos), which whilst I’m okay with the blank, seems to be finished with the finesse of a toddler with a pritt-stick.
