Something for the new season sir ?

If you are old enough, you will remember your barber asking, after a haircut, " something for the weekend sir?", meaning condoms.
I was just wondering what you have promised yourself for the start of the new season.
I've sent two reels for servicing, ordered a new carbon quiver tip for my free spirit rod and renewing the mono on all my spools.
 
I'm planning on making life a little more difficult for myself by using my split cane rods and Speedias a bit more having recently had significant additions to my collection. The down side is that some of the rods are in mint condition so I'll be gutted when I chip the varnish on them.

In the mean time I'm planning on tarn fishing for wild brownies in the Lake District, anything over 500m will do me.

I am well into the twilight years of my life (71) and I have just managed to join a club that has a stretch of the trent
it will mean a return trip of 314 miles each time so I will only manage about 1 trip a month but I have had a smile on my face ever since I found out I can be a member to me its like winning the lotto as I had applied to another club but I am 430 odd on the list so will be long gone before getting in that club
my fishing mate moved up Norf and I dont feel confident night fishing on my own in todays world
I just cant wait to fish with him again
I have been a carp angler since 1964 and now I want to target Barbel Ive splashed the pension money on new rods and reels more suited for the job just a few other bits to get before the new season and a new chapter in my angling begins cant believe how excited I am I will never grow up lol

Gerry , great place to live for carp fishing , as you would have access to all the top waters in the valley :D

It's still got it's share of barbel fishing as well , so somewhere else to fish when you ain't heading north .

Same here- more use of the split cane rod. And on the Wye too when conditions etc permit!
 
I've treated myself to several long-desired fancies for the new season:
MK4 Drennan tench
Hardy Richard Walker fibreglass carp rod (bought on here)
John Wilson Wanderer (bought on here)
North Western medium-heavy long range feeder
Okuma Sheffield (bought on here)

and a Rapidex and Trudex.


In terms of fishing, having concentrated almost exclusively on barbel and pike in the rivers and drains last year, I'm aiming for a lot more variety this year and some stillwater fishing. I also want to do a lot more trotting - only did it a couple of times mid-summer, but bagged up (mostly with small silvers).
 
To stop winding myself up every time when trolls try to make out they know everything. Also to tackle tart that tell me my 10 year old rods are crap and out of date man.
