It's an encouraging initiative but as ever will depend on enforcement when, not if, the water companies fail to meet their obligations.

It is good news but the plan won't be in place for 18 months then it will be a further 3 years for 800 overflows to be "improved". Whilst welcoming this I suspect that 800 is "a drop in the ocean". There is no mention of storm drains themselves only sewerage discharge. I suspect that water flowing off roads, which will have salt in it after road "gritting" and will carry the pollutants from exhausts and tyres, will flow into our rivers for decades to come.

There will probably be 800 more outflows by the time they sort them out!
