Snapped torrix

Hi I'm wondering if someone can help Ive had these torrix rods for about 10 years with no problems at all. I've just lifted one up and the top section had snapped In half in my hand.

Im almost 95% sure the gentleman that made me them was called Bob Gill and believe he could be a member of this forum as the rods have the BFW logo on them.

Many thanks if anyone can help.im a bit gutted 😢

Yes it's definitely Bob Gill Neil now I've done some research 😂sorry I don't post on this forum much at all and feel like a bit of a pillock having to ask when not really contributing much else but Im just not sure what to do. I've read Bob has retired from the rod making so maybe he might be able to offer some advice. I absolutely love these rods not only are they great at what they do but they also have sentimental value as well.

Hi Lea,
I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune regarding the tip on your Torrix and thank you for providing the picture - which enabled me to research the order more fully.
The tip appears to have fractured 'cleanly' and in a position that would indicate a replacement tip would be pretty much the only repair option to make the rod functional again.
Torrix 2lb tip sections are available and should fit the butt section without too many problems.
I still have the specifications for your two rods, which maybe be of help.

Best regards,

Bob

Lea if Bob isn’t able to build this, not all is lost.
don’t do anything with that broken section until you’ve spoke to a builder as it is the template for which the new one can be built on.
I reckon if you sent that rod to a good builder they’ll have it done. You’ll also need to send the but section too so the new top can be made to fit correctly.
now you’ll probably want to save some money and use the old rings (I would)
Talk to the builder about stripping them yourself again to save money but definitely make a drawing or get the spaces from Bob Gill if he has them before you strip them or you might end up with a different ring pattern.

Hi Bob many thanks for replying regarding this. I would be happy to have a new top section made and preferably the same spec as your original with the white and orange top along with the isotope fitted in as well. Do you know anyone that might be able to make me a new top section if I were to sent them the broken one so they could maybe duplicate it.

I was thinking of contacting Harrison directly or am I right in saying they would only supply the blank and not a custom build.

Many thanks.

Lea.

Hi Richard

Thabks for the advice do you know of anyone that may be able to help me maybe say if I was to send them the snapped section and they could maybe duplicate it to as close as the original that Bob made me.

Best regards.

The issue is whether or not the builder classes your case as a rebuild or not.
a lot won’t touch a rod they haven’t originally built but you are requesting a new section so that might be ok.
I think you should message @Andy Frances first to see if Shane would do that for you. He currently builds the new bfw rods and looking at his pictures he’s a pure craftsman. Now failing that if people don’t want to strip and rebuild you a new section I’d suggest you contact someone like Tony Kay. he builds new but will take on any rod work no matter who built it and he’s bloody good.
I also have a contact for a guy that I highly recommend as well who does re builds and repairs in my area. He’s not cheap but again he’s exceptionally skilled and recently done some custom work for me on some old pike rods.
he fitted some line clips for me and completely re done the monogram area for me with section ID as can be seen below his work is A1
you’ve got options definitely

Sorry to hijack the thread, where would I get a 2lb tip section to add to the 1.75lb on my 12’ factory build Torrix?

Hi Ray I'm up in york. I would be happy to send the broken section anywhere to a rod builder.

Bob has told me that they no longer make the fuji rings in the shiny black anymore but he has told me he has some from when he was building rods so I could probably source them from him and then hopefully get someone else to put it together.

Best regards.

Lea.

Just a thought, but I would ask a rod builder for a price on a torrix 1.75/2lb twin tip rod built to match the existing butt section you have.

You will then have two rods, and if you don't like or need the 1.75 rod then you will very decent money on Ebay for it at the moment.

You’ve still got the original rings. Just cut them off. Doesn’t matter if you mark the blank.

Gavin ive contacted chas today and he is going to sort to for me he lives very close to me as well so hopefully not too much hassle .cheers mate
Good to hear, he's a real gentleman. I was very happy with the workmanship and the price. I've got one of his Chimera 3 rods, superb quality.
