Small river Rod recommendation

I've an old Shimano 1.75lb Beast Master Classic All Round 11' AX I use on the Dearne. It's got a nice soft tip but progressive power under load, I suppose it's like a stepped up avon rod.
On such a narrow, shallow river its a case of hit and hold and soon tames the chub and smallish barbel I've had there. It will be good fun if I can find a bigger barbel I'm sure.

I have a Greys Toreon Tactical Quivertip Rod 8'1" and it’s blinding also the darent valley 8ft is I’ve heard good but I use these more on streams than small rivers

Still use my John Wilson Avon - superb rod, but I'm not a tackle tart. I use stuff that does what I need it to do until it doesn't and don't care if it's older than god and looks old and knackered like me
Me too (mine though, not yours 😆)

I often use the 2.5oz tip because it looks nicer than the 1.25 tc Avon top and it’s more sensitive so I can read what’s happening in my swim better. It’s a joy to use and you can feel the fight even in a small chub, yet it’s still got plenty of power and I’ve landed 10lb+ barbel with it, no problem.

Not sure how easy it is to find one for sale nowadays though.

I have four or five in various guises from the original model with duplon handle that has a korum seat fitted later to a strange thing I bought last year that has a almost all glass (donkey top)
section. Which is interesting but not the quickest on the strike. Can't find any info on Masterline ever manufacturing this model.
The original Avon had a terrible cheap quiver section but they did improve with later builds.
A classic rod that will be ever more sought after.

Free spirit Ctx feederlites are lovely rods, I use an 11ft version for perch and chub on my local small river. Had chub to 7lb on it but no barbel.

You booger, now look what you have made me do....😉
I just said have a look Neil , not liberate the moths from your wallet , hibernating between the white fivers and ten bob notes ! The rod I mention does feel nice in the hand and I think it would suit for a small river situation . The only criticism I have is the one I bought [ new] had a faulty rod bog , specifically the bottom wasn't stitched up properly and the sections slid out , very shoddy , now cured with gaffer tape

Cheeky sod...I went for the 1.5 12ft in that it would do as a reasonable float rod too. Drennan rods go out of stock so quick, been after a red range avon for some time.

Good afternoon,
Looking for a quiver tip rod about 10ft
I fish a small river that is quite snaggy but I want something sensitive for the Perch with a bit of backbone should I hook something bigger .Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you
I just got one of the the Nytro Impax commercial carp quivers in 9ft (they do a 10 and 11ft too) more out of curiosity and it was £35 delivered and its absolutely spot on! Got it for chub and perch on a small snaggy river.

Out of curiosity, what would you be targeting with a float on a 12ft 1.5lb tc rod?
Well as ls it says on the tin Barbel.. living in hope, but it shouldn't be too over gunned to be worth a trot or two. I imagine the action would be quite good. I don't own a dedicated barbel float rod I have a Drennan Tench and a growing collector of speci floats. So just itching to get on the Wye again.

I bought a cheap Korum All-rounder. 12ft.
Designed for float or feeder fishing. 1 5tc.

It was perfect for a blackcap feeder on Throop. Showing every bite. I also use it for perch sometimes. But a bit soft in the tip if casting lives for them and pulling hook home.

The reason I asked is that I am looking for a dedicated barbel float rod and a 12ft / 1.5lb rod wouldn't even be on my list.

Isn't the Drennan Tench rod closer to a dedicated barbel float rod than a TT Duo, or do you want Duo for those times where you only want to carry one rod? Seems like that's the purpose of the Duo... jack-of-all-trades sort of rod.
.

Its true the Tench is a good float rod for heavier species...but the duo fits in between a couple of older Fox TT at 1.75 with 6 oz tip a Drennan 1.75 single specialist ,11ft Torrix and the Dave Mason rod...and a few others that reside in the loft🤔 As you will see it was imperative I should have another rod in the bag 🙄

The Drennan Duo arrived yesterday and seems like it will be fine with the Avon top as a float rod for Barbel amd Chub. The action is firm and the guides are just 10 in total incl tip. Of course with it being 2 piece at 12ft it makes it so much easier to break down and assemble.
The bag however was faulty with the stitching as previously mentioned on here.
Easy fix.
