Sky blue braid

Hi all.
Do you think sky blue braid would be visible to the fish at moderate depths ?
Got a spool of 30lb at good price for lure fishing, but wandered if using it for Barbel on the
Feeder or lead could have a negative effect ???

I don’t think barbel are particularly tackle shy and in anything other that gin clear water I don’t believe they are sight feeding much at all. There will be alsorts of colours down there with them I don’t think it matters too much. I’ve had them posing for underwater cameras that are right in their faces and they didn’t care.

they don’t like tight lines that they may come into contact with. If you’ve got it pinned with a back lead or the hook bait well away from the incoming then I doubt it makes a difference what colour your line is.

As above, if your really concerned then why not use a leader? I don’t think the colour rendition of a Barbels eye sight will be particularly great, nothing like our own.

In terms of thinking, blue is one of the most penatrating colours it’s really red that will be lost and become invisible in virtually any river in this country.

Your probably over thinking it. That said, I wouldn’t use it but I’d do a kart wheel before each cast if I thought it might help…

If your fishing a leader, the fish won't be bothered. I bought some of the Ppsuper8 slick, in a rainbow colour, didn't make a jot of difference. Imo if they can see it, the better.

I often use a lime green braid mainline, helps me see it and handy if you have two lines in the water.

My set-up is braid mainline to mono or fluorocarbon 6' leader, then my end rig of slightly lighter mono or fluoro. Using an Albright knot to join the braid to the leader I have never been broken at this point.

So far I seem to catch plenty of barbel, chub and carp. I can only conclude the mainline colour does not scare the fish!

I reckon you're bang on there Jon. Without any proof either way, it just makes more sense to me.

That blue braid will probably end up an off white or greyish colour anyway when the dye "washes off" and not "out of"! Most braids fade.

Can always camouflage with a permanent marker, any colour you want.

Use any colour you like.....most of the time only the last foot actually matters.
