Tim,

For what its worth I think the above product is best for roving, it strikes the right balance between lightness, comfort and ease of transport. In addition you are going to look a right wally on the bank with what looks like a pole sticking out of your a**e. By the way I am referring to the shaft of the shooting stick and not an East European..............................

I had the stick because it was when my arthritis was just starting to bite hard and clambering down banks was a bit of a problem, with the stick I could stay at the top and direct operations.

Just a word to the wise Adrian. Talking about roaming with young lads and bum buddy's in the same sentence will only lead to inclusion in Operation Yew Tree.......now then, now then...............
 
Richard- I know I am not a moderator on this forum, but just reading your last two posts on this thread, I feel duty bound to urge a little more care and consideration in your choice of words and subject matter. Some may consider that you have strayed too far from hearty banter. If you are looking for a bite, then I would respectfully suggest you go back to braid v mono type subjects.

I've used them but not when fishing. My guess would be that it would sink in below the mud plate on most banks unless they are either bone dry or frozen hard.

I wouldn't worry too much about the stability when you get a bite, if they can handle the movement and recoil of a user shooting a shotgun whilst sat on one. It takes a bit of getting used to, that's all.

I could not agree more with your sentiments. It's these damn pills the doctor has got me on; apparently they are capable of inducing mood swings or something, I will be glad when I don't have to take them any more.

Pretty powerful pills by the sound of it, also having the ability to 'morph' you into a celeb angler.

Dave do try and be a little less flippant, it's a serious matter the close season, I mean it can kick off anytime.

I got one Tim, it was my Dads and is similar to David's photo. It folds up it's aluminium and weighs 2lbs, but it does sink in soft ground. i suppose mud feet could be fitted??? I have used it on the odd occasion but only on flat hard ground.
 
First outing with my new second-hand shooting stick today.

I found it fairly ideal for the roving style I was adopting. All I had to carry was the rod, net, and stick. Bits and bobs were in my pockets. Admittedly it's not that comfortable, and does often fall over when standing up to play and land fish, but otherwise it's fine...
 
Tim, all you need do if sinking occurs is to get a bit of 1/4" metal abot 4" across,drill or cut out a hole in centre for the spike to go through. job done

Hi John,
I had no sinking issues..the stretch of the Frome I was on (sorry, I wasn't barbel fishing!) has lovely grass banks. If anything, a longer spike on the base of the stick would help prevent the falling over problem when landing fish.
 
Roving Seat

I use a Bearseat thermal waterproof padded seat when roving. It's waterproof and has a waist band and strap that goes round the back of your legs. Got it off ebay for about £10 including P&P. It's ideal when you're only staying for 10/15 mins in each swim.
