Shipping Rods Over 2m

Hi

Can anyone suggest a reasonable courier service for shipping rods over 2m?

My post office (who also does parcel force) wont take them, and everyone else charges an arm and a leg.

Cheers

Ben

The post office take parcels up to 1.5 mtrs and most 12 ft rods break down to 1.85 mtrs.
Interparcel Charge around £13 to £17 depending on extra insurance for contents. And that's who I use pretty reliable for the amount of rods I've sent.

interparcel will take long items in tubes up to 2.5 metres long and up to 18cm x18cm and up to 20kg in weight for £8.85 plus vat= £10.62
the average size for a plastic rod tube inside a heavy duty cardboard tube stuffed with paper for protection, well that is how i send them now, is around.
200cm x 12cm x 12cm with a weight of 4-5 kilos depending on the thickness of the cardboard tube, that includes £50 insurance, i think it's another £2 for insurance up to £100, over that i'm not sure.. they charge an extra 2% for paypal payment and nothing extra for debit card payment..
guaranteed next day delivery or your cash back, i've had cash back twice when drivers have run out of hours and they were delivered a day late, that has been very rare though and i've sent quite a few rods over the years

Thanks for the advice from Forum members. I was going to suggest Paisley Freight. About £13 for rod(s). It would appear that Interparcel shades it with the insurance option which is a £5 for Paisley Freight. Do bear them in mind, though, for larger items, bikes etc, they were half the price of anyone else.

Post office i found the cheapest parcel force 48 never had any problems £11.60

You must be very fortunate around your area Robert, around here the post offices are so regimental, you walk in with a tube be it for royal mail or parcel force and all you get is the sharp intake of breath and out comes the long ruler, anything a knats todger over 1.5metres and you get the sarcastic smile... sorry too long, try a courier...
poor really as the post office is the biggest courier in the country yet can't cope with anything over 1.5m, well they do cope because you get the odd ones that slip through..

My experience as well. As soon as the counter staff see a tube, it is doomed. They used to take 2m tubes. I suspect that they lose a fair bit of business with this silly restriction. If they were to charge a premium, for example a couple of quid extra for items between 1.5m and 2m might be a solution. But what do you expect when the counterstaff have a silly piece of board hoping that an envelope won't go through a slot - bit pathetic. Chuck in the massive increases in stamps and the whole shooting match ain't too good, and that's an opinion from an old fan of the Royal Mail.

I once got an oversize tube through my local N.Yorks Post Office - it got as far as London & then they sent it back to my address as it was too long! They did suggest I could cut it down by a few inches ....

been using my post office for some time now must just be a lucky so and so. the only other courier i have used are inter parcel they seem quite cheap aswell about £12 i think
