Shimano Ultegra Ci4+ 5500 XTB reels

Balanced equipment is in the eye of the beholder. Like Karl, I use 5500 XTB's on the Nidd and the Trent. Some may argue that they are too big for smaller rivers but as mine are on rests throughout the duration of my fishing, it doesn't make much difference. As has been said they have great cranking power and a very good clutch to play with. Sorry it doesn't help you with your query about what was the next model out, Andrew, but I don't know how many upgraded to the this as the old one was so pleasing to use.
 
I think I've captured the gist of what I wanted to know, basically they sound like a very good reel from those who have used them.
