Selling Rod Online

Richard Parsons

Senior Member & Supporter
Hi all - I've not sold a rod online before and just curious as to where to source a rod tube?

Any advice gratefully received.

You could try your local tackle shop and see if they’ve got one. More problematic is getting a company to deliver it at a reasonable cost due to the length.

Richard , if its a one off , just buy some drainpipe from B&Q . If you want rod tubes , there are sellers on e bay[ cheaper to buy in bundles of 5 or 10] or try your local tackle shop if you just want one . Sometimes Carpet shops may have spare carboard tubing which they usually just throw away or recycle . Couriers : you usually get best deal by googling Interparcel or Parcel to go , costs vary according to length , avoid Yodel or Tuffnell

I hope this isn't a knee jerk response to the anti-hexxer comments on yesterdays thread Rich?! 🤣

Definitely keeping that one, Joe 😂

Selling a North Western that I've had for years, but rarely use, as well as a couple of Normarks.

Appreciate your offer, too!

Rich the best way is to offer it as collection only. Saves any hassle or risk and very expensive post costs because you can’t post a 6 foot tube insured nowadays and get much change out of £30. Even then the insurance is a proper cop out and most couriers now don’t want to know if it exceeds 1.6m
you’ll probably not get a quick sale but posting rods is just a ball ache.

Yes, Rich, that did cross my mind as an alternative I just don't think I'll get the true value by limiting the geographical scope to Manchester, or thereabouts.

I may just bite the bullet and do that, however. 👍

You will get it’s value Rich if your prepared to hold out for the right price. What you won’t get is a quick sale.

I've sold many rods and posted them and although I agree that collection only is appealing it does limit your audience.

I have found UPS very good but I recommend using strong cardboard tubes (plastic rod tubes can shatter on impact) from the inside of carpet rolls - my local carpet shop lets me have them for free.

The cost of posting is high I think the last time I sent one it was over £20.

No, Joe, it's a Sealey 2lb tc Specialist. Originally had a duplon handle - but have since had it stripped back and rebuilt with a cork handle, re-varnished and new rings. It has a lovely through action.
take it to the agm rich try and sell it there... gotta be worth a go

You will sell that easily enough I reckon. I've always found selling vis a courier ok - the main issue being in for when they collect.
