Seat box.

Guys.

I know we're supposed to be big fish hunters, and I'm loathed to say it, but! Does anyone use a match style seat box for fishing!

I ask as almost all my barbel fishing now is with one rod, and that's mostly a float rod. I'm finding it so much fun, a match type seat box would make life easier in many ways.

Just wondered?

Richard.

Absolutely no reason why you shouldn't:
1. If you can set it up easily in the peg of your choice
2. You can get it to your peg without too much hassle
3. you don't fall asleep on the tidal stretches!

I use my old watercraft box with octoplus legs to sit level. Think I got mine for £40 second hand. I do prefer to be sat on a box if I am float fishing close in all day. It doesnt feel right if i am sat lower on a chair. The legs take a side tray for all bait and bits. If I used it more I would definatly get a footplate just so my feet are always on the ground on sloping banks!

I stopped using a box many years ago. I found it just got heavier and heavier with the stuff i crammed in it that i didn't need on the bank. These days i travel a lot lighter with a small rucksack and a lightweight Fox adjuster chair. I can walk further and have no back ache hauling a lump of Alloy.

You read my mind Dave,Trevor used to use a box i think it was a black keenets box.If you are fishing one swim and not moving a box with a footplate and maybe a wheel kit is exactly what you need.I trot on a very prolific barbel stretch and use a Boss box with a footplate.Get yourself comfortable with a bait apron and a couple of rod rests and you are more efficient.

That's a thumbs up guys thanks. I'll start with something basic I can upgrade with side bits. Have to agree trays would make life so much better when feeding.

Thanks all. Will feedback what I get.

Richard.

Just managed to buy a Matchteam 2000 for £60 new, I like free delivery too.

I don't know much about the make but they are selling for twice that price elsewhere. Expect they will be made in the far east but if it last a few seasons I'll be happy. The trays I'll buy once it arrives.

I see to you can buy back rests these days for boxes so that's also a thought?

Thanks Guys.

Richard.

Seat box

I did not like the typical low seat for a lot of my fishing and find it very awkward to float fish from. At the same time my usual Matchbox was heavy to carry around when moving around a lot. I contacted Jim at matchbox and got this of him. I added a strap at the front to carry it easily from peg to peg, I don't even take the side tray off when I move (just remove everything from it!), the whole thing only weighs 4Kg - 8.8lb. I still use a small Korum rucksack and find the extra space in the box handy for clothes etc. Also has a shoulder strap and I could just put everything inside if I wanted.

That looks perfect Andrew, what a smart idea.

Sadly my box arrived, and was broken. I brought it from EBay new, paid with PayPal. The chap has not responded despite having sent 3 mails asking for a refund, or replacement?

It does not look good, and I hope buying from the above I'll get some regress.

Has anyone had such happen, and got their money back. Cannot afford to lose £60 anytime. Why are people like this with customers?

Richard.

I had a similar box when i was a match angler. A brilo box which you could take apart and add/take off sections. I had the shallow base and legs with a carry strap. Very handy for float fishing sessions on the river bank.

Submit a report to E bay Richard , they will contact the seller . I would also suggest you read the E bay terms and conditions regarding refunds so you get an idea of the process . Was the package damaged when the courier / postie delivered it ? Damage in transit can be a little trickier to resolve

Richard, that's not good.
If they state 'returns accepted' on the listing then you should not have a problem.
Open a dispute through ebay. There are probably time schedules to adhere to, but you should get redress.

I have a Matchbox with all the bits and bobs, but for a lightweight set-up for river fishing you can't go far wrong with the Daiwa 40 box. Discontinued now but there's still some about. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daiwa-40-...892840?hash=item51dab8c3e8:g:2-EAAOSw7I5Tu8Y1
If you take out the drawer cassette it's even lighter and the internal legs make it easy to carry.
Pretty much unbreakable too.

Hi David. Still got my Brilo box, for exactly the reason you stated, light as a feather without the base section. :)
