School-boy error

My best was doing an all nighter on the Hampshire Avon back in the 70's just after dark I baited up and cast out it was a wonderful warm dry night with just a slight breeze. After about 10 min the end of the rod started to twitch and then it stopped then another little twitch this went on for some time so it was obvious that the bait was still on ( cracker barrel cheese) so I saw no reason to draw it in and recast. After a time the wind got a little stronger and whilst I was talking to my mate referring to increase in the wind my rod tip shot round surely a nice chub? I struck and only then did I realise that although my free running lead had hit water the bait was up in a tree just below where we were fishing and all those "bites" had in fact been the wind blowing the branches!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Landing net one (late Oct 09) - Fished a reasonable distance below a hydro scheme when they released a foot of water at midnight. Retreated up the bank forgetting the net.

Landing net two (early Nov 09) - Fished a tidal river to land a fish on the low tide, leaving the net where it was to be swallowed up in the incoming tide. Net only used once & combined price over £100!

I was out barbel fishing the other week and only went and forgot both my priest and my bass bag!
Ended up scratching around for a suitable heavy stick, which was just as well, as I did quite well, and luckily I had a Waitrose carrier bag with me, though the handles did well not to break!
They didn't taste any better:)
I know this is bullcrap because you have never done 'quite well' at Barbel fishing.:)

Years ago the missus dropped me off for an overnighter at a local carp lake.
Feeling tired, i decided to have a snooze on the bedchair before setting up the rods etc.
She came back in the morning to find me still asleep........i never even set the rods up!!

Steve

Brilliant, i actually laughed out loud at this!!

3 summers ago,

(when I used to get excited about going fishing:() after my usual 45 minute journey, I got to my allotted destination, unloaded the boot of chair, ruckbag, landing net. Then went round to passenger door to get rods out............... no rods, didn't even get them out of the shed!
Drove back home again and in my haste got done for doing 68 in a 60 zone.
Don't remember the rest of the day.

Forgotten kit

Having experienced the same think, I now keep a decent sized trout folding landing net buried in the boot of my car. Got me out of a hole once, when I needed it to land a good sized barbel. Not an ideal solution, but saved a potentially disastrous day. Now I tend to pack the car the night before, I appreciate the problems with this! And on the drivers seat, leave a note, Bait.
Works for me as I have a memory akin to a landing net!

Nah, never leave rods in the car. But pack the rest where eyes can't see. Just a bit of paper on the drivers seat reminds me of the bait/rods. :)

A couple of years ago an angler came down from Yorkshire for a week on the Royalty. He got his ticket at 7:30 and shot off down the fishery. He was back ten minutes later as he had left his quiver complete with his set up rods & reels back home. Poor sod, wonder if he posts on here...
