I love my barbel fishing but because I live in Norfolk where they no longer exist (apart from some rumours of single fish) I have to travel to catch them.
However, what we do have here are The Broads and the networks of rivers connecting them.
Yesterday I spent a wonderful few hours on the Bure catching 7lb of rudd and roach, amongst lily pads a rods length out.
Simple, Mr Crabtree type fishing. I had a heron for company and buzzard overhead. Dragonflies were everywhere.
No barbel, but, as in life, you can't have it all.
