The Drennan Specialist 1.5lb is a lovely rod. I bought one off here a short time ago and had some nice barbel on it so far with maggot feeder tactics.

Hi David, yes it’s a good all round rod, better suited to chub never had a barbel on it
I agree Duncan.
My old drennan medium feeder rod with 1oz tip 4lb line & 2 maggots had a 12.5lb barbel in flood.
If you play them sensibly you'll be amazed what you can do with the rods.

Our late Keith Speer had a 17lb barbel once, by design on float gear during the winter once. The article should be in the archives somewhere. What an Angler he was! 😊

Hi Julian, you did well to bank the 12.5lb barbel on light gear in a flood, I agree it comes down to being sensible with the rod.
As for Keith landing a17lb barbel on float gear that’s pretty good going! It often begs the question of test curves and why people go for larger strengths, I have been guilty of it myself.

Mostly to cast the required pay load and land fish quickly before total exhaustion but that aside I do agree we live in an over gunned world now. Especially the carp world.

Lovely rods btw. People often refer to Korum as cheap rods and usually they are but the ex-caliber is and “ex-ception” very very high end stuff when Korum were competing with the big boys.

Thanks Richard, yes I agree with you and never understood why Korum didn’t follow up with a high spec rod after the X calibre, maybe had their fingers burned by the costs involved in the production?
