Rod travel length

Glad it is sorted. 👍

Strange sort of rod though compared to my 5 piece 12 foot rod. I can see your dilemma regars transporting it.

Terry on here that I fish with used to use one of the Drennans. Nice gear. It would take his free spirits coupled up with ss2600 reels quite nicely.
Dunno about shimmy 6’s. They are significantly chunkier.
 
mine takes shimano 4000 perfectly 👍

Just use the green quiver tip and leave the big section at home. I had the masterline rod for years and only ever used the quiver tip for barbel and landed fish to 12lb 8 on the Severn with 2m of water on it. The only time I used the 1.75 tip was when I used to floater fish for carp and that handled fish up to 20lb 15. If it’s the same as the masterline then it’s a soft rod so lacks a bit of back bone but takes the lunges well especially under the tip
 
Hiya John.. I rarely fish the quiver section on a twin tip rod for barbel , the avon top will do me fine, i might even paint it white yet... i'll use the quiver section at 11ft at some time or other on some other parts of the river for chub..sounds just right for me though, thanks for the info..
 
No worries. I’m not sure or the ratings of the quiver tips but from my experience with the masterline rod the heaviest tip felt very similar playing fish as the 1.75 tip did. Like I said I never once used the 1.75 on the river and never felt like I was missing out. Plus it’s already white with green tip so easy to see. But enjoy the rod either way. I loved mine to bits and was a bit sad to replace it but after 14 years hard use it was time for new gear. I’d never get rid of it though
 
Hi mate hope you are well...from what I heard last you were all but ready to give up fishing due to mobility issues, so pleased you seem to be giving it a go again.
Are you sticking a shimmy 6000 on the JW?😐

I purchased a brand new Drennan 2 rod with reels holdall a few years ago. It was well made. Unfortunately, I sold it as new immediately, as it was a tad too tight for my outfits. Shame, as I like to support Drennan due to their innovation and support of specialist angling.

Hello Neil... no mate not sticking a 6000 on the JW, have got a daiwa 3500 on there.. the 6000 reels are on a pair of heavier barbel rods that to be honest i probably won't use much, possibly at severn stoke where you can get out of the car and fish or somewhere similar...
i have given up chasing around on the wye and severn, trying to get to swims i could get to 20 years ago thinking that i could now and getting myself in an angry, agitated, frustrated state, i have accepted it now though and fish realisticly without working myself into a state..
Sold loads of gear that i had, minimal amout of gear to carry, just basics.. i'll be fishing the BA a lot closer to home to this season, have found a few comfortable swims with little walking and doing just 3 or 4 hours at a time before it cripples me so hopefully that will get myself in a better frame of mind..hope you are ok neil...

Glad to hear you are still going for it! Managing where we fish is part of life now, but the BA is not too shabby, although not like it used to be but makes catching even sweeter.
If you want to come this way SS or similar be good to meet up, fellow Bristol kiddy😊

That's right Neil, it came to light when i was fishing on a local club lake, i had a barrow with me and could not push it through a bit of mud and up a bit of a slope, luckily enough one of the younger guys who had also packed up came over as he could see i was struggling and done it for me..
i just felt so embarressed, i had never needed help before on anything, i got really upset about it and thought well if i can't push a f++++++ barrow then i might as well chuck it all in.. it really got to me for ages until a few people put me straight...
Yes, i have got health issues and so do lots of other people so you have think before you do things now..

The biggest mistake is giving up, in a way you might get more satisfaction than if it was a breeze. Absolutely carry on mate.
