Rod set ups

Do people on here use identical rod and reels if fishing 2 set ups as I'm tempted to use different rod and reels so I get a feel for what I like being a newbie also what reels would people recommend for a 1.75lb test curve

i generally only fish one rod, 4000 or 5000 size reels will be fine Neil.

Same here, single rod for me since I fish smaller rivers but if I did fish 2 rods I'd have matching set ups.

4000 shimano baitrunner on my 10ft 1.75lb nash scope

I was fishing 2 of the same for carp, until a couple of weeks ago when I clumsily snapped one of them, not even a fishing related accident!

I can't find a second one for the life of me, and my ocd wouldn't cope having odd rods!

Yes, without a doubt. I couldn't sit behind two different rods.

Mixed rods and/or reels; I couldn’t give a damn (if I use 2 rods).

Same with rod rests, line spools etc.

As long as it is all up to the job it can be battered and secondhand.

I don’t want to look like a ‘specialist’ angler.

The bit that actually matters (to me) is the bait, the rig and where (and when) I actually cast it.

I like the rods and reels to be identical for no other reason than they feel the same act the same and have the same limitations same clutch speeds same baitrunner settings.

Nothing whatsoever about image for me it’s about consistency and knowing my gear. 2 different set ups fished together could feel confusing particularly if they behaved very differently.

Morning Neil, there are so many variables, it depends on what sort of river you are fishing. Its size, its power, its stocks, Summer or Winter, heavy Floods, Tidal, fishing pressure etc. If you can tell us what river you are fishing I think we can give you more accurate answers that will suit the type of areas you will be doing.
