Rod insurance recommendations

Morning guys.

Do any of you guys insure your rods/tackle, and if so which company's comes on top?

I've started looking round myself, but I'd like to see who my fellow anglers have chosen to use.

Thanks😊

Have a look at your house contents cover first. I don’t have any stand alone insurance for tackle, mine is just covered with house contents insurance - I it covers sport equipment for breakages, fire damage and theft when in use or stored in an outhouse. Up to a total value of 10k and 1k per item (excepted cycles which are listed separately and up to 3k) I pay an increase cost for additional cover but it all seemed reasonable

I had my fishing tackle, 6K worth, insured for £60 a year. However the Co-Op stopped the policy. When I looked into company insurance quotes they were excessive. £300 a year for a couple of grands worth of tackle. I will make a claim through my house insurance.

The best bet is probably as part of a decent house insurance policy. But cheap house insurance won’t do.

Same with angling specific policies -they come and go; primarily because too many anglers are prats who claimed every year to ‘get their money back’ - so the insurer gives up after a few years.

Mines on my contents cover to. It doesn't cost a lot either but does have to be as an add on under sporting equipment
Fishing Tackle
At home and away from the home

Is how it was worded on my policy

If you’re an Angling Trust member, they have linked up with the Insurance Emporium to provide specialist tackle insurance. Might be worth a look but bear in mind that their policies are based on lunar months so you pay every four weeks rather than monthly.

I didn’t think 💭 you had to be a member of the AT to get there insurance? 🤔

Worth checking some of the small print on polices. When I had my match gear covered, the policy stated my kit wasn't insured if left unattended, which was awkward for the match draw. Also, it wasn't insured if it got damaged in use, so you'd have to blagg it if you did.

Single item cover didn't cover my pole either as it was of a higher value, so I had to insure that separately. £117 back in the day. Very expensive back then.

Yes definitely is! Me and a friend between us have just had a 👀 it’s a potential mine field in fact I’d say a complete ripoff! 🤔 I’m gonna get a big dog 🐕 instead 😉

As I've just shared with Jim elsewhere, insurance emporium only covers rods up to about 4 years after manufacture, they won't cover discontinued rods at whatever the today's value might be, it'll only be as close to today's equivalent which wouldn't work for me. Especially as most of today's rods are crap quality 😂

It's been very interesting looking and asking about the finer details of what they'd cover, plus they (as you'd expect) would need receipts & proof of purchases, which most of us wouldn't have, having brought 2nd hand years ago.

Also they'd take into account wear & tear for its age & knock off its value at that point, plus other factors, so yes as Jim says it's a rip off!
