I have a pair as well. I use them in the Wye once or twice a year and they seem fine. I can cast a loaded feeder across and the fishing playing action is very enjoyable. I don’t use the quiver tips as I don’t feel the need. I normally use a Fox duo and these TFGs are very similar just a heavier test curve.

There was no quivertip section with them when i brought them
What size leads are you comfortable chucking with them

mine are 2lb tc. I’m happy casting a 3oz cage feeder full of ground bait and would lob anything bigger. They have quite an old fashioned through action and are nicely finished.

Was thinking of using them as rods for floodwater fishing on thames til i can upgrade them so hoping they will cope only rrally used them as surface fishing rods and small water carping rods

TF Gear - wasn't that something to do with Matt Hayes, back in the day? They made rods and reels (one of their centrepins comes up for sale from time to time). Price point-wise, they were around middle, and fairly popular.

I used these a few years back before I got my first customs. I think they're the same anyway, there's a bit of glare in the photo.

They're bloody good rods for the money, in my opinion. I think I picked up the second of my pair for £35ish on eBay as an ex display model (wasn't a mark on it). I landed Barbel to low double figures on them. A mate of mine still borrows them when we fish the Wye and he enjoys using them.

Mine also came with a quiver top section as well as the standard top. You're not missing much not having the additional top. They're not even proper guides on the quiver section, just flimsy wire loops.

They performed admirably as tench rods for a closed season too. Quite capable of chucking out a larger filled feeder (within the limitations of my casting ability anyways...). I'd say they are slightly lighter than the 2lb TC rating - somewhere between 1.75 - 2. I'd estimate their ideal casting weight is 2.5oz/3oz, but they're certainly capable of a bit more. They've got a nice through action.

Still use mine for harbour/lighter shore fishing.

Bit more info from an out of stock AD link here, they tended to be £149.99 RRP reduced to £49.99 everywhere when they were available, so ignore the price point on the link.

I presume the ‘TF’ stands for Total Fishing. You probably know that anyway.Matt Hayes fishing program on Sky tv that started in the 90’s.
I used to look forward to that when I got Sky tv back in ’95.Enjoyed the Peter Stone and Trefor West segments.
If I remember correctly,I was paying less than £30 a month for the complete package.Ditched the robbing so and so’s a few years ago, when the price had crept up to over £100.

Matt Hayes was the front man for TF Gear and had a hand in designing some of the tackle. He left TF gear not long after Fish-Tec bought them out.

I understand he is living the dream in Norway these days after marrying a pretty Norwegian lass who owns her own fishing lodge in the back country. The jammy git...but you make your own luck in life so fair play to him. Always enjoyed his programs, good broadcaster.
