Rod choice .

As christmas has been more than good for me this year I'm looking to buy a couple of rods for flood water use and am torn between the Century Armolite , the Free Spirit Hi'S heavy and the Daiwa Basia , all 2.75 tc . Any comments , advise would be massively great .

I've been using the Free Spirit Hi S Big River Barbel 12' 2.25lb for a few years now with no problems at all, I've used them on St Pats and the Kennet in flood but not on the bigger rivers like the Trent,Severn and Thames etc. I've not used the Hi S Heavy so can't comment on this rod I would go to the Tackle Box or Johnson Ross where you will be able to compare the rods and find the best one to suite your requirements .
I'm sure others will come along and tell you the rods they are using are the ones to be with but you pay your money and take your choice.
 
Thankyou Dave for that . Been using the 10 ft 1.75 and 2.25 scopes for my fishing and just wanted something I knew would be up to coping when needed . I've done fairly this season fishing flooded venues , but do think the extra length and higher tc would have been a better choice . Again thankyou mate , clearly it would wiser seeing for myself .
 
I would think you only need 2.75's if you are going to be chucking out some serious feeders/leads a distance. I have the Free Spirit "Spirit Barbel" 2.25's and find them adequate for my needs including the non tidal Trent. My belief is Free Spirit would sell more rods to barbel anglers if there were more stockists. A pair of Hi S rods are going to set you back £600-700 so a trip to one of the larger stockists would be worthwhile but check their stock before making a long journey.
 
As Robert says,check out Graham’s advert in the classified section,I’ve had a pair of the Special Advanced for a number of years and found them to be fabulous rods,capable of chucking a 4 oz lead and a large pva bag to the far side of the Upper Trent but with a lovely through action when playing your captures,great rods 👍 👍
 
There a great rod I’ve got the 11ft 1.5lb Tc advanced lovely rod
 
I would take a serious like at the 12 ft 2.75 lb Daiwa Powermesh Barbel Rod ! I have these and fish the Tidal Trent landed plenty of fish on them now and they are amazing rods
I also have a pair of the Fox duo-lite specialist twin tip 1.75lb 2.25lb rods thinking I would use the fox when less challenging conditions but to be honest the Daiwa Powermesh dont feel overgunned with small weights and rivers they have such a wonderful action I use them all the time
