Rod advice please

Well, that's it isn't it - it's just a pointer isn't it and a small one at that. Wouldn't it be of benefit to anglers for rod builders to advise on producing a rod over what length that test curve is achieved?
I asked Kev Baynes once about test curves and regretted doing so after 30 mins of being blinded by physics!. Nearly all of which passed right over my head. I then compounded matters by asking about 50mm butt rings. Anyway, about an hour later he basically told me the suggested mods I wanted making to a carp rod would not improve the physics and he advised against it.

A very knowledgeable and helpful chap, clearly understanding the science behind rod building to a rarified level. I've heard nothing but good about the rods he built from those who have used them. I think the snipers were based on a customised torrix blank. I'd love to handle one of the specialists.

Or discuss with the rod builder what you want to do with it?
I know from experience that any of the ones regularly discussed on this forum will build you a rod that matches the brief
I also know that I’ve ordered a rod based on preconceived ideas and been dissuaded by the rod builder, but I went ahead all the same
He was right of course.
Mark Tunley does a decent job on his website as he gives a brief write up and the ,sweet spot’ for casting weights
This is a good starting point and he’s always there to discuss specifics in more detail like handle length, guides, reel sets etc
I think we are fortunate in this sport that a truly bespoke product is within the reach of most people, even if we have to trade up or put a bit aside each month
If anyone shoots and has priced a bespoke shotgun you’ll know what i mean

As a concept, I think the Specialist (specifically the 3 piece) was and still is ground breaking.
I viewed a video with Steve Jobs earlier today where he was questioned about the direction Apple were taking. He replied that he felt that he wanted to take what the user experience should be and backwards manufacture it from there, as opposed to looking at what off the shelf items there might be perhaps.
What Kev Baynes did I feel was to take the same approach with the Specialist. 'What do I need a 12ft small to medium river rod to do?', and then looked at achieving it.

Had a pm from a member on here suggesting taking a look at a cadence 2.0 t/c or 2.5 t/c barbel rod ...has anyone got any feedback on these rods ? ...had a look on their website and they seem keenly priced

I think if you are wanting to cast 6 oz feeders perhaps worrying about finesse should not be a priority? Some very adequate sub £100 rods will do a good job. My go to rods for the Severn in higher levels are the old Drennan Powers with Shimano 6010s ...unbreakable and great to use.
