River wye

Looking for a good inn / hotel on the wye , with some good fishing. Any help . Thanks
The "go to" place years ago was The Red Lion at Bredwardine but I think the owner, Mike Taylor, has put it on the market? Still worth a ring though. They have a website I believe. Had some cracking days fishing the Red Lion beat and hilarious evenings in the bar. Happy Days

Hello Dave, and thanks. Have you stayed there before ? Do I need a club day ticket and did you catch .. thanks
£15 a day, tickets available from the Inn on the Wye, which is across the road from the river, one car park is almost directly opposite the pub, at the canoe launch, you can fish downstream from there. Downstream access is a bit further down the road. Look for faster water, Canoes can be a nightmare during the day!

Thanks they’ve got room there. I’ll give it a go . 👍🏼👍🏼

Hi Craig, being a spate river it can be a bit of famine or feast depending on the conditions so don't go up there thinking it's a guaranteed red letter day. However, you should catch ( it's not just the Barbel there ) and it's a beautiful river and a nice part of the world to spend time in. I have never fished the Bredwardine stretch and some of the other gents on here who have will be able to advise you better but if the swims are anything like some of those in the Ross area take a rope and dog spike with you to get down to ( and up from ) them

if your looking for barbel i would not choose the bristol avon even though there are a few fish here and there but very difficult to find.

Hi again Craig. As I said in my earlier post it's a few years since I fished the Red Lion stretch. I used to have some success fishing the tail of what we called "the gravels" which is like a pebble "beach" in the second field you drive through. The swim opposite the salmon hut used to be good as well.
There may still be a sign behind the bar that says "The best 3 things in life: Fishing, Drinking and Talking Fishing in the Pub". Tell Mike Taylor that the guys who gave it to him say "hi"!
Tight Lines 👍
