River Trent Barbel Monitoring

Its in the early planning stage but just a heads up. The EA are putting plans in place to tag a number of barbel around 200 in each section to track their movements. This will be carried out by inserting a small radio tag into each fish. I understand there will be underwater monitors that will record the fish as it passes over the beam. This also will apply to chub and salmon in the river. The main purpose is to monitor fish movements post fish pass installation and in some cases weir removel. The results of this study will be very interesting on a big river like the Trent

Be surprising how hard it is to find 200 Barbel in a section? Some areas have dropped off massively in the past decade.
