River Dove Barbel

Hi all

Looking at joining an angling club that controls sections of the Dove. I'm looking at fishing for chub and barbel, so without wanting anyones secret spots or stretches I'm wondering which club offers the best fishing for these species as I've not fished the river before.

Many thanks Anton

Burton Mutual control about 9 miles of the Dove, and also long sections of the Trent. Unfortunately, the Dove isn't what it used to be and I find it very hard going. Catch it right and there are still good Barbel to be had in there. The Chub fishing is still ok. I catch more Chub than Barbel.

The membership for Burton is closed at the moment, but a decision on more members is excepted to be made in February.

Thanks Simon
I usually head toward the warks Avon for any barbel fishing but again hard going nowadays. Trouble is its ann hour each way for me where as the Dove is 35 mins and a lovely river just the same. Really not feeling jumping the wagon for the trent as its not my favored way of fishing for barbel but I may have to change my ways!

Being perfectly honest, i don't fish the Dove much now. Just once this season. I just find it very difficult fishing, lovely river, don't get me wrong, but its too hard for me nowadays. Besides, i drive past the upper Trent on my way to the Dove, so i might as well blank closer to home than travel the extra distance to do so.

Yes, Burton Mutual, if they open up again next season, Anton. As Simon says barbel are a little more scarce than they were - but I'm talking thirteen years ago, and a fair while before I fished the river. Time on the bank tends to equal reward and there are some fantastic fish still about. I've only had four sessions this season so far, for two barbel caught and one lost to a hook pull. So, not too bad. I've been fishing the Upper Trent more often. Plenty of blanks to be had on either river.
