Replacement net for Chris Brown

I have had a Chris Brown 32" Barbel Rover landing net for a while now. I like the handle and arms as, although on the heavy side, they feel pretty bomb proof and I've had issues with handles and spreader blocks breaking before.

What I don't like about the product is the net. I've had a couple of instances now where, even though I'm careful, a Barbel gets its Dorsal fin snagged on the bigger mesh on the sides of the net - I have seen this discussed previously in this forum.

So I'd like to swap the nets over. Anyone had experience of this and recommend a net with a better (more fish friendly) mesh that fits the CB well?

i got rid myself, to much hassle.
the worst £90 i've spent.

Interested to know what the problems were you had wth it? was it just the net quality.

Regards Martin
the handle was to heavy, even for me, the locking feature wasn't up to much either, and as said, the net is diabolical.
the only good thing was the spreader.
i did like it at first, but living with it, no thanks!

Happy with mine, especially since I chucked the net and replaced it with a spare Solar 30+ net, which I had for my other landing net, and is very much better. The Solar 30+ is bigger but it doesn't seem to matter.

Now I've writ that I must Google and try to find the Solar so I can do a link :).

To be honest if I'd known more about the Chris Brown I'd have stuck with my Solar with Powerstretch handle, but a pal had two slightly older Chris Browns - a barbel net (when it was 36") and a carp one (42") - and I went with it because of that, and they are much better. Yes, expensive, and if the net (mesh) was better it'd be fine.

Paul, thanks for the reply. Been looking for the Solar net you mentioned but can only see spare mesh for the big carp nets they do.
If you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I have no idea why anyone would want to spend that sort of money on a net. If you look at the match fishing world there are plenty of 10' telescopic handles which are light and strong and more than up to the job of netting a couple of hundred barbel a year.
The match boys rarely waste money on gear which is not up to the job and a handle which will comfortably cope with 15 or 20 10lb carp in a 5 hr match, week in week out, is good enough for me...........You might want to get rid of some of the more garish graphics though.

I suppose I should add that my net is a bit like Triggers broom, in recent years it has had three meshes and two frames, it is presently a 30 plus mesh from a triangular carp net and a folding three section frame the manufacturer of which I can't remember.
The handle is a 10' telescopic one I picked up at a boot sale for a couple of pounds on the way home from an overnighter which had been plagued by a jammed power stretch which cost me 35 quid after one too many pints at an evening with Trefor West.

I cannot fault rubber mesh its fantastic IMO, The korum barbel spoon has been a fav of mine for a long time but I must say just a bit too shallow. I found this one last season its from Fox, dont be put off by the predator name, its really good, a lot deeper than the Korum and so far built to last.

I have the CB barbel net and think it's great product with the exception of the net for reasons stated above. They don't make it with the large mesh anymore so I'd suggest you ring them and I'd be surprised if they didn't offer to change it for you.

I got CB to make up the extendable pole with a screw thread ferrule instead of the block. Used with an Insight net it's perfect.

Got fed up with Drennan rubbish poles that don't extend......

My CB mesh tore fairly easily - albeit after a particulalrly difficult neeting of a carp for a fellow angler. I contacted CB and he offered to replace the mesh. I actually bought a free spirit spare mesh from the Tackle Box which is softer and finer than the original. This has been fine. The CB nets are not the lightest but are pretty robust (mesh aside lol!)
