Record Equaling Chub

Sorry should point out was questioning the current record , fantastic fish Neil and heres me trying catch a 6lber from the trent

Yes well done Neill. Magnificent fish. It's an undisputed river record though isn't it? That's the real thing :)

Neill,

That seems to clear it up; for me anyway.

Congratulations on a stunning fish; as to whether it breaks the record or not doesnt concern me either as the fish is clearly worthy of more than our deliberations. It is simply a stunning fish in it's own right and one to be rightly proud of and happy with. Well done.:)

Paul

That is HUGE! almost a grass carp.... 18 hook 2.2lb bottom single maggot?

Well done

Brian

Thank you all for the kind words. Very lucky to have been in the right place at the right time. Probably used my lifetime quota of luck now, but happy to have blown it like that!

Hi Neill, like i said quite clearly i was in no way trying to de-value your capture, quite simply its a stunning creature record or not, i was just confused as to why it was weighed that way and your comments in the video point to you being confused as well !!
For the record (no pun intended!) that is simply one of the most amazing fish i've ever seen mate, no pettiness here, just a huge well done ;)

I'm not jealous either, honest i'm not, honest......... :p :D

Nice one mate! Couldn't happen to a better bloke, chuffed for you. Now stop bloody catching so many big fish and making me feel bad

Wow seeing a 6lber slide over the net makes my heart skip a beat but a 9plus would stop it for sure. Well played Neill.

Got to agree with you Clive. Had a few 6's in my time which could still be considered big chub for the north but this fish is in a different league. Jaw droppingly BIG!

While i can understand that the naming of the stretch and filming of the peg might upset a few regulars, i think you're complaints about the captor's ego are misguided, especially when mentioning that you caught a 6lb 14oz chub in the same post!

The fishing world would be duller indeed if nobody shared their captures. Although i am not one to share my venues and would rather others didn't, i think it is excusable when a British record is involved.

I think that the 9.5 chub caught is a fantastic fish, having caught big 6's and 7's from the lea I can't understand in the name of ego why you would want to film the weigh in with steve the bailiff and broadcasting where the fish was caught !! I had a 6lb 14oz chub last day of the season not too far from where this fish was caught !! Now you will have every tom , dick and harry down the lea which is already seeing too much pressure as it is, once again a fantastic fish fella but I just wished you could of been a little more respectful and discreet about this catch but all you care about is ego !!

Stick in there Kevin , another wafer thin mint and that chub would break the record , you might catch it , make your current PB look like a minnow ! As Graham says , with no publicity about big fish captures what would we all have to ogle at ? That said rash publicity can ruin things . I am a casual Angling Times reader but EVERY time I pick it up there is at least one snap of a monster Lea chub , I think the secret is out ....

With all respect, I don't think you could be further from the truth if you tried, Kevin.

Think about how many 2D fish pics get scrutinised and put down as "never the weight claimed".
What could give a better idea of the real size of a fish than a moving image?

I don't think Neill would have bothered filming if it wasn't for the fact that it was a potential record-equaler/breaker. I would have done the same.
Anglers will want as much size-justifying eye-candy as possible if they're to be convinced of such a capture.

Don't you agree? ;)

I've fished this stretch for many years and I have no doubts in my mind that no matter how quiet one might try to keep such a capture, as soon as Witnesses are involved, it's impossible to keep a lid on.

And so it proved.

The swim was fairly common knowledge to the regulars way before the Youtube footage was aired, so I think your criticism is redundant.
Neill was hoping to at least have a quiet period of grace and release the news at season's end (a couple of weeks), but certain Big Mouths didn't even have the decency or respect to allow him that.

As far as "pressure" is concerned, there's not that much down there comparativley speaking, since the barbel numbers crashed and those that try the stretch from scratch, often find it extremely hard for bites and even harder with the attention given them by the ubiquitous and expanding cray population.

There are some splendid fish there still, but only for the stout-hearted and tenacious.
Something most anglers, in my opinion, aren't. ;)

I am having difficulty with 'Stout of Heart and Tenacious' where a bit of Chubbing is concerned :D
