Recommendations on a custom build all-rounder.

Evening everyone.
I am considering a custom build rod that covers all of my river roving. Primarily for perch, chub and barbel fishing.
It would be nice if it was capable of indicating a shyer bite without being a twig if you know what I mean.
I'm not looking for a rod to fish the likes of the Trent. The Tees and Swale are the targets.
Something with a nice progressive taper is what I am thinking.
I would really appreciate any advice, recommendations and possible rod builders.

Thank you.

There’s the Harrison range of blanks. 11ft 1.5tc Harrison Avon? You could go down to 1.25tc, depends on how much Barbel fishing you will do with it. You’ll enjoy the Perch and Chub at that test curve, but run the risk of being under gunned for bigger Barbel/snaggy swims. There’s the Chimera Avon in 1.5tc too. Torrix, Chimera no.1 or Dark Carbon specialist range, if you’re looking for something 12ft.

Personally, I don’t think I’d go down that route for a ‘Jack of all trades’ type rod... Don’t get me wrong though, I’d love to own all of the above...

Mark Tunley comes highly recommended as a builder from me.

Second vote here for the C no1
The advantage of a 2 pc rod like the chimera no 1 is if you wanted you can get It as a twin top with a quiver section for those ultra shy bites if needed.
You can’t do this with the 4pc Avon I’ve had that confirmed from Harrison’s.
If you don’t need or want a quiver section then the 4pc Avon would be a great addition to the roving armory.

My first thought was twin tip (1.5/1.75 plus quiver section), but then reading the OP again I thought "He's describing a Medium Feeder Rod" ... plenty of sensitivity in the tip, necessary power in reserve, and with the capacity to handle lines from ~6-12lb bs. Maybe a good match man would tell you exactly the best blank(s) for the job.

i use a medium feeder rod for chub on the swale, but from the odd encounter with a barbel whilst chubbing,i have found them not to be suitable for the task, although fish can be landed, the swim soon empties of chub whilst your undergunned rod is playing out the barbel.i would recommend nothing under 1.5lb test curve.hope this helps, and yes i know not everyone will agree,Marco

I was thinking 1.5lb myself. I find my 1.25lb rods just a little soft for barbel.
I have just had a look on the Peregrine site. I have a couple of flood rods built by Roger and I love them.
He has an 11' avon rod at 1lb6oz and a 12' stepped up avon rod. No mention of TC on the latter.
Does anyone have any experience of these two rods?

Harrison Avon would be my choice . Contact Chas Burns in York [ Burns built rods ], he builds on Harrison blanks and will advise , his work is top quality 07719788036
