Thinking about fishing one of the bigger rivers next year and was wondering what people's thoughts are on rods and reels for places like the Trent, Thames, Severn ?

Fox fx specimen 12ft 2.75 shimano Medium longcast and 30lb power pro braid or 15lb gardner hydrotuff

Fox Duo-Lite FX Twin Tip and Shimano XT-A Medium LC's. Cover the bases with the rods plus a bullet proof reel.

Theres some nice rods out there. Fox floods, fx2&3/4, torrix flood, chimera 3 etc. But one thing to do is definitely try before you buy. For big rivers you cant go wrong with the medium longcasts or a pair of thunnus 8000s.

Another reel that might be worth considering is the Daiwa Emcast BR5000A.This comes with 2 spools and 2 handles (double and single),is front drag with a baitrunner facility and good line capacity (310m of14lb).I'm not sure if this is a new model or not, just read the test in TCF.

Pete.
