Pulled out

I was thinking about using a combi but how do people tie them???

I was thinking about doing the knot less knot but instead of going back through the eye just put a blob of super glue on it and tie the fluro straight to the eye of the hook????
Or is there a better way of doing it???

cheers jamie

try this Jamie, http://www.carpcatchers.biz/carpcatchersblog/index.php/tag/combi-link-knotscombi-link-rig/

plus type combi rigs into the search on Google. Its also well worth doing your home work on the knots, mono/fluoro/braid etc.

Deffinately Practise your knots at home for the combi put YouTube on watch how it's done and follow the steps whilst watching and the job will be a gudgeon.

Combi for me.sinking 12lb suffix and 13lb Teklon. Raptors, size 8, the ones with the short shank and wide gape, think they might be called T6.

Steve other ideas than rig material....have you experimented with running VS semi-fixed? Have you tried heavier weights? Maybe the shock/ bolt effect of a semi-fixed on a heavy lead would help the hookup? Also would length of hooklink be worth looking at? I'd also look at length of hair if you're losing fish - might get a better hold by changing that.

Are your pull-outs all happening fishing immediately downstream of your rod tip? You could be literally pulling the bait out of their mouth...

I have heard of other people using a combi rig to reduce the cost of the hooklink with fluoro being much cheaper than braid.
For those using a combi rig what length of braid are you using at the hook end?
What is the favoured brand of fluoro?

Michael

Maybe your problem is hook size, in relation to bait size? Too big, and the weight of the hook will inhibit bait movement and hooking potential, I always opt for smaller sizes, rarely going above a ten, even on largebaits, ie 2x 18mm boilies.

It's 12.5 Ib that i'm using..i've just tied some combi rigs using an albright knot, i'll give them a go this week.....What makes these hook pulls worse is it always happens on a lump ! :D

Alright Steve
Been using a combi since January 2011 and had no issues with the knot hooklink to braid but my issue has been braid fraying at the hook eye! Been worse with green ESP sink braid and Drennan Specialist Barbel hooks . I think it is the angle of the eye? As you said it's always happens on a lump but it's the previous fish thats possibly weakend the braid! Changed braid types to kryston super nova and so far no issues but i've tied up some Riverge rigs just in case!! Just one thing i add to my combi rigs is a 20mm piece of tungsten rig tube that i slide over the knot. Keeps the rig pinned down and enhances the hinge effect;)

Take it easy! Ian.

Good idea Ian, will definately give that one a go, cheers mate;)

I'm new to the combi rigs aswel and will Deffinately be using them. However I can't understand why people seem to say the fish can't see the flouro which is fair enough but the business end has braid which fish can see??
