Preston Carbonactive 12.9 heavy Float rod

Been asking on other forums without any luck at all. So am hoping i might be lucky here.
Just acquired the above rod the model with the asaki blank at the booty on Wednesday. Ever since i sold my Accylite I've been without a float rod to use on my local rivers. I know most will say it's a bit short for trotting but the rivers i fish except for one are narrow. I will also be using it on stillwaters in the closed season. Now i use anything up to 6lb line with a pin when trotting depending on the weed and 3 to 4 on stillwaters.
Has anyone know any info on these rods and will it work for my type of fishing?

I've landed some big puddle pigs in the past on a 13' Carbonactive. Shouldn't be any issue with those line b/s..

That's good to hear. I understand the 12.9ft has a bit more power in the blank than the 13ft. Apart from that, i can find no information about the rod at all. Having a bend in the garden it seems to have a though action. I paid £25 for it and it still has the plastic on the but. Think it's been used only a few time if that.

If it’s the Asaki blank version that’s a real bargain at that price, Ian. I had one, it’s a very good trotting rod for barbel and float fishing for tench and carp.

I have used 10lb straight through on the basic 13ft Asaki Carbonactive blank with a 2ft extension to 15ft trotting for barbel to 9lb on the fast flowing Wye with no probs - it don't half bend!!

Yes, it is the Asaki blank, The yellow sticker is under the varnish on the butt section. From your comments am glad as this is what i bought the rod for. For me, Preston is an unknown eternity for me having only bought Drennan float rods in the past.

Iain, did it come with the rod sleeve? It’s a basic plastic one, but the guy who bought the rod from me didn’t want it, I’ll send it to you if I you want, no charge.

I’ve not seen or handled that model Ian, but generally all the Preston Asaki blanks were top draw, as good, if not better then anything Preston produce now, up there with the blanks produced by Harrison’s, Daiwa etc. You would expect to pay around £180-£200 for that rod in today’s money.

Thanks for the kind offer Dave, i didn't get a sleeve with it. I usually just chuck them anyway. I have put it in a spare Drennan 2 rod padded holdall i have.
I got to use it on Thursday and Friday, trotting with a centre pin on the Sussex River Rother. Managed to hook 2 Chub around 4/5lb mark and a Brown Trout. The rod's action seems very like my Drennan 14ft Accy plus that i sold but with more power in the middle to butt section The tip is quite sensitive for the first 6 or so inches which i prefer. On Saturday i used it on my clubs still waters with a 3000 sized reel a 4lb line and loaded, wagglers. Due to it being -1c the fishing was hard. At the end of the six hour session, i ended up with an 18.7lb Common and 3 skimmers and 7 small Roach. Thanks to the tip i could see every tiny knock from the small Roach. Not sure how it would handle a Barbel yet but so far am very happy with the rod.
