Polarised glasses

As I am a spec wearer I wear overglasses - oversized specs that you wear over the top of your normal ones and are far superior to clip-ons for several reasons IMHO, the main ones being (a) clip-ons rarely cover the lens properly and (b) still allow the light from around the periphery of the specs and (c) the clip often interferes by appearing on the edge of view or just uncomfortable on the nose. Point (b) also being a problem usually with even prescription polaroids unless you have a wrap-around style.

The ones I use are these: http://www.therustyfish.co.uk/infoOGMEDBG.html
but mine are black framed with YELLOW lenses which far from dimming the view like grey or even amber/brown actually appears to enhance the brightness and clarity. Also being of wrap-around design no peripheral light at all gets through either.

Cost £19.99 inc a hard case to keep them in and free P&P.

Bad points are (a) that you look like a bog-eyed Martian but on the river bank who cares and (b) if you use single vision lensed glasses for distance but then look over the top for close up work - reading/hook tying - then you have to remove them as you cannot lower and peer over the top of your specs as normal... Re. point (b) - if you have bi- or varifocals then there should be no issue but I don't and so can't guarantee that.

The yellow lensed ones are not currently showing on the the Rusty Fish site so assume they are out of stock at the mo... but they are actually branded as 'Eye Level' so if you Google 'Eye Level Overglasses', etc you should locate other suppliers who seem to sell at around same price but who may charge extra for the case and/or for the P&P.

Anyway, they are recommended by me... :)

Over Specs..............we`ve got two designs coming in at the end of next month

Neil,

A PX or BX or simply an X as they are called sometimes now, are a shop (Base/Post exchange)on a military base for US armed forces. Each US garrison oversaes has one, and they are like large hypermarkets and sell everything and its wife! from sports gear to military clothing and equipment and so on...the choice is wide and usually is sold at US prices so you get good deals depending on which part of the world you are in. You used to have to have a NATO issue ID card to get in and served.

From Bergen Hohne we used to go to the PX in Bremen to get some decent sports stuff for half the price in the german stores.

What colour are the lenses on the precision glasses....Anyone.

John, they`re amber/brown. Not a full amber as we found that too light and not brown as we found that too dark! I`ll wear them on light cloud days as well as in the harsh light of lake Nasser!

Thank you for that info Martyn.

Sure camo would suit you Adam....

Sure camo would suit you Adam....

Thank you John thats very kind ha ha.

I usualy have some tucked away in the car and the other halfs car, I had some ESP clearview glasses until my daughter wanted to try them on...snap, the thing with those was at least if I put them on and walked down the street they blended in........ with camo??

I had a pair of optix they were a bit 80's /90's but they did the job the other half took them down to the charity shop as she has never seen them on me before, they were gone before I got down there.......a theme running with my luck with polarised glasses.

It's a pity the Precision ones don't come in a plain black/grey frame

They will in a couple of months Adam;):D

Rubberised finish and destruction tested to the point theres a pair living in 45m of water at the bottom of Nasser! We`ll have them in by the start of October.

Will they still be in the same designs? Ie Trent Wye etc I much prefer the black to camo and I will order a pair come October.
