Any boilie will catch you barbel, I've had em on tiger nut and white chocolate malt.

I don't really barbel fish any more David so not much to offer I'm afraid but there def seems to be something in the pineapple, worth exploring for those who like doing something different.

I have no qualms about trying fruity flavours. However, they haven't caught me too many fish. Looking at the replies so far, I suspect that the rivers where such baits are especially successful might just have a fair number of carp and people fishing for them. Unfortunately, my usual river haunts have few of the former and virtually none of the latter. It goes some way to explaining the relative lack of success. Truth be told, there are parts of my local river that sees very little in the way of pellet or any type of boilie. The fish in such stretches are very difficult to tempt on either.

I am deeply unimaginative and have never considered using a fruit flavour.

Which is pretty mad really as I used a tangerine and a blackcurrant fishmeal for carp for a good couple of years and caught very well on both. I must have been brain washed into thinking the fishmeal, pellet and meat way was the only true way.

Time for a change me thinks

Have had lots of success with fruity flavoured baits over the years, one particular favourite umteen years ago was cranberry shellfish by Ocean Fresh,.. 6mm's fished on a bayonet hair rig, barbel loved em.
Good old tutti frutti corn was another winner, if there were'nt to many bream about.
Tend to fish hemp and caster on the Hamp. Avon during the warmer months and always hair rig artificial casters,...Drennan's are the best in my opinion and are pineapple flavoured,..never imagined years ago that I would be catching a lot of my barbel on pineapple flavoured bits of rubber! No durex jokes please!

Cheers, Dave.

Hi men,

We smell baits as fruit , who knows what the barbel senses think it is . The combo of attractors / chemicals blended to give us the fruit flavours in baits can be attractive ( or not ) to them for reasons we don't understand , but just have to accept they will tell us by being caught that they eat it !. The last barbel I caught on a fruity type bait was on choc orange , lovely smooth fruity pungent smell to us , might well have smelt of Donna Kebab to it for all we know :D

Baker bio shellfish with plum flavouring .
Caught loads on it.
Needed no introduction, tried it and caught.

Mark, John's original recommendation included his 'Butt Ringer' flavour as well, with that combination...brilliant. Was it carp or barbel you were catching on it?

Cheers, Dave.

Is the yateley angling bait ASAP not the Bio Shellfish plus Ala Salar and plum?

No longer available apparently due to sourcing issues for a couple of key ingredients. Apparently they are currently field testing (for Carp I understand) some alternatives. Even if these reach the required standard they won't be available until next season.

Hi Howard,

Any idea what the make up was of Rapido?

Guy where I go has been baiting up for river carp with fruity flavours and has caught barbel on Tutti Fruiti and Strawberry and Cream. Big fish as well. Would not have the confidence to use them myself.

A mate of mine rolled me some baits for carp fishing which I ended up taking barbel fishing with me and caught from the off. He wouldn't tell me what flavour they were so I had to eat a few to find out. They were plum on a fishmeal base - sort of nice and foul at the same time.
