Patrolling for poachers

At least it was good to see an article about the issue on BBC morning news, even if it was 7:30 on a Sunday morning.

Everything has to start somewhere, I for one think this is a great initiative which can only be good for angling.

I have to agree with Mr Crook on this , the initiative seems well thought out and positive , surely as anglers we should be supportive ?

What's going to happen next year David ?

The final stage of the 'open borders' policy foisted on us by the EU and the Labour government comes about next year Mike, allowing the A2 members of the EU free entry to Britain. Effectively, that means that the population of both Romania and Bulgaria (roughly 30,000,000 people) have the right to emigrate to the UK should they wish. When you consider the parlous state of the economy in those countries (bankrupt since the communist Soviet Union withdrew)...and that they have a huge population of Romany gypsies that are shunned by the other citizens....then 'The streets of London are paved with gold' syndrome will come into effect. In the decade since our borders opened to the Polish population, more than 700,000 Eastern Europeans have moved to Britain, far more than the government of the day's prediction of 15,000 per year. If you think our rivers (not to mention our hospitals and welfare system) are in a precarious state now....you 'aint seen nothing yet.

I shall now don my tin helmet and retire to watch the fun, as the politically correct, brainwashed and utterly unrealistic section of our membership start screeching words like 'racist' and 'xenophobe' etc.

Well....you did ask Mike :D

Cheers, Dave.

I think it's ridiculous the pathetic fines they receive poachers of any Country should be slammed with a big fine what's the point of buying a Licence or obeying the close season for a £50 fine
Great initiative like its a start I suppose.
Are the EA Bailiffs going to carry out these patrols if so what other duties will be relaxed ? Where's the money coming from ( Our Licence ) ? Maybe it will go up as they need to be on duty 24/7 may have to employ extra EA Staffing ?
Think Volunteers would be a good option I'd personally slap em with a massive fine and send them on something like a community based fisheries management programme

Its called communtiy payback!, send em along to clean a few rivers up.

Baliff,s were patrolling last nite, said they had caught them cooking there catch,s on saturday, didnt get to find out what happened

You’re all the same you moan and groan and do nothing. Anyone other than Stevo, Crooky and perhaps one or two others ever had the commitment to organise themselves into a club bailiffing scheme or is it someone else’s job? I posted a link a while back about the prosecutions on the Mersey nettings. Most just moaned the fine was not enough The next thing I read on the subject is some halfwit pulls a net out of the Wye then says nothing has been done, of course not numbscull; you ruined the evidence.

In case you hadn't yet twigged Kevin, this is a forum where anglers discuss things. Also, there are anglers from all over the country who contribute to it and you can have no idea who does what, you are just presuming you know. So instead of leaping on your moral high horse and criticising everyone for moaning, shouldn't you perhaps be asking if anyone is proactive in trying to stop illegal angling, or perhaps offering some expert advice on how to do so?

Alex I have been listening to it for about 50 years now. Always an excuse Very little action from the AAC Apathetic Angling Club. Of the hundreds of moans about "I saw a poacher and no one has done anything about it" posts on here, how many actually phoned the EA and asked for the all important incident number?
