I‘ve never tried marmite but it seems Plausible that it would make a decent attractant bait additive.I am convinced that the yeast and fermentation may be attractive to cyprinids.
Some years ago I bought a bait soak/glug that seemed reasonably well regarded at the time. Soon after I also bought some of this from Costco:
Yoshidas Gourmet Sauce 1360g Bottle, Brown : Amazon.co.uk: Grocery

The smell, texture, colour, everything in fact, were exactly the same, minus the carp, barbel, let’s have the punter’s pants down surcharge or course. I was convinced at the time that the company were simply buying in large quantities of Yoshidas and repackaging it up with 500% added value by adding Fancy words to the name and sticking a picture of a fish on the bottle.
Regardless, Yoshidas is similar to marmite in that It’s a umami type flavour. Strong smelling and viscous too. This reminds me that I must get another bottle and give it another try.
