Got to the Severn at Bewdley ( 1st visit to this stretch ) for 6am ( 2 hour drive ), Stan Lewis Tackle shop was already open, WOW! he recommended to me and my mate where to fish and told us how fabulous it was ( 15lb barbel, 2lb roach, etc ). We were both slobbering like St Bernards
The 150 yard walk from the car park felt nearer half a mile carrying 6 ton of, well i might need that, and i might need that etc, etc, etc. So much for travelling light. Before long, me and the mate were set up tip fishing and waiting for the 3ft twitch. 12 noon came and went and not a twitch in sight. After starting off on 10lb mainline with an 8lb hooklength. We had both now scaled down to float rods, stick floats, 3lb m/line, 0.10 bottoms, and a single maggot. At 3pm with a single minnow between us, we decided to up sticks and change venue. After looking at various other stretches on the Severn, which must be the lowest level we've ever seen it at, with a strange chocolate tea colour, we decided to change river. 90 minutes later, we arrived at the river Dee in Chester, which didn't look much better, but hey, we were on the river on the glorious 16th. ( such joy ). At 7.30, we had trebled the weight of the minnow with a stonking dace. We were both overcome by such an achievement, that we called it a day, drove home, and went the pub to celebrate.
