Like the others, I have never used them Robert, but they seem to be highly regarded. A lot of carp have been caught on them, and although carp and barbel are two different fish, their tastes in food items are pretty similar, as are those of most of the 'grazer' type fish.
As you know, one of the annoying factors for dedicated carp men is the number of other species that mess up their well laid traps (and often a lot of work) by snaffling up their boilies. Bream are the worst offenders, with big roach another, and a multitude of others which get caught less often. The only factor that stops more of the smaller fish being caught is the size of the bait and hook.
That being so, clearly our baits are very acceptable to most fish. Many of the bait manufacturers now bring out a dedicated range of 'Barbel' baits, but that is only because carp fishing is, in general, on the wane....barbel are the new carp! So, the manufacturers bring out a new
rolleyes
range to cover that market. Most of them will in fact be identical to carp baits they already make, with at best only minor tweaks to make them smell acceptable to us. A bit like pretty floats, made to catch anglers, not fish
Try them. My best barbel catches have come to boilies marketed as carp baits, after a period of pre baiting, and I doubt that was really necessary...but it made me happy and gave me confidence, and THAT is the vital factor
Cheers, Dave.
