Hi Is there anyone out there who could perhaps put a date on a rod i've recently purchased off a well known auction site.

Its a 12ft All through Action North Western Blanks Carbon Kevlar

With a 1.25 tc

The rod was NOS with plastic still on the cork handle.

I know the company went bust a few years ago

My mate bought a pair (2lb TC) as his first set of decent carp rods but I cannot remember the exact year. Possibly 1987-88(?). Soft action compared to more modern rods, slim & tidy finished blank. I'd like a couple of these for my present barbelling but with fewer guides.

I had an 11ft version of that rod I think. Is it a twin tip, Jeff?

Its a single tip with eye to take a screw in quiver / swing tip

I have a medium feeder kevlite which has a different appearance blank wise.

I suspect its difficult to age NW rods because there coarse / specialist rods

ranges were the same for years!
 
Jeff. Did you get it from a Maidenhead/Cookham seller.

I only ask because Maidenhead Bait and Tackle told me last week they had found in stock/sold quite a few NW rods and blanks in the last 3 weeks on Ebayand got very good prices?

They might be able to find out a bit more?

Nw rods

Hi Graham

You are correct I bought the rod from MBT via ebay. I am happy because i was after an avon rod for smaller rivers. I payed £51 for a rod that had a price tag of £120. This tallies with a magazine advert from Coarse fisherman circa 1995
My gut feeling is that the rod is from that era; not that it should dimish my enjoyment from using it.

I had a few kevlite rods too, Jeff.
I purchased my rod, the carbon kevlar, around 2001 - it was an excellent rod that landed me, through it's full action, many fish. Only let down by the length of it, for my uses anyway.

Yes it does Dave. Spacing far too much IMO also. Maybe re ringed. Sort of question to ask before bidding.

Beware the spigots on the Keviltes especially if they are from the earlier models!

I have a pair of Kevlite carp rods, i spent a huge amount of money for them in around 92-93 and the spigots have been replaced at least four times on each rod as they are prone to breaking. I spoke to NW (Alan Loveday i think his name was) and he told me it was to only part of the blank NW did not make and they had lots of issues with them.

I do not use the rods now, the next time they break will be the last time :(
 
North Western Rods

Kevlite / Kevlar

The names are similar but i believe the kevlite range of rods are grey in colour and has a chequered weave appearance similar to that of a Harrison Chimera

My rod is the Carbon Kevlar which is black and has a regular pattern, the reel rings are john robert sliding vareity

Years ago i had a North Western blanks brochure which i foolishly threw away

was building rods using north western blanks for years
his still building rods today have a look on the net i am sure he will help you out

i have used north west rods for years,2lb tc both in 11 and 12 feet

excellent players rods for carp and barbel
 
I have a North Western Kevlar Multi Range built by Rodcraft, 12' 2.25lb green finish to the blank, 9 Fuji BNHG guides. It was once owned by the father of the guy who plays Tyrone in Coronation Street so has celebrity status.

I also have a North Western rod - 11" Sealey 2lb tc Specialist with an abbreviated duplon handle. Nice rod, except for the handle, with a through action. I've no idea what it's made of.

I'm expecting plenty of blanks this season, up here in the North West :)
