Hi Ian. The nene is my local river I’ve fished it for a while now.Hi,
After a season of chub only sessions, this year I'm determined to catch myself a Barbel from the River Nene.
Any tips anyone could puch my way would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian
Thanks Richard,Castor sadly hasn’t produced much for anyone last season and Alwalton although it’s definitely done afew hasn’t been as productive as usual so really don’t beat yourself up about this.
Moving onto nene anger waters and getting yourself onto the Elton syndicate list will increase your chances. Put yourself on Wellington too
Don’t give up on Alwalton as there is still a decent head to go at there and we should all be joining the pdaa to support the club.
The nene has always fished better after a good summer shower injecting a bit of colour and pace through it
Chub are still plentiful so reducing your free offerings and not bringing them in can be a good tactic.
Make your first cast either at the crack of dawn or a couple of hours before the sun starts to set and that can go in your favour too.
I do this with 2 single hook baits on spots and just leave em to be found. It’s not uncommon for the only bite I have to be a full on wrap over.
The worst thing you can do with the nene in my opinion is approach it like the Trent and put a carpet of bait down
There’s just not the numbers of barbel to do this and yet …….. as you know…… it’s rammed with greedy bream and chub
Good luck and maybe I’ll see you down there at some point
