Newbie to the Severn 😬

Hi All

I am recently retired and although I have extensive knowledge of Barbel fishing (allegedly 😬) I have never fished the Severn. I live in Poole, Dorset, and have joined BAA with the intention of “Spreading my wings” and fishing more diverse waters.

Clearly this will entail travelling up to the midlands and staying overnight.

My dilemma in the first instance is accommodation as I will probably be on my own and would prefer not to sleep in my car.

Can anyone recommend reasonably priced B&B accommodation with single rooms in or around the area of BAA waters (preferably with a hostelry nearby 😉).

Thanks in advance

Keith

High Keith. I am also in Dorset ( Weymouth). I have been going up since retiring 4 years ago. As already said, you want The Ship Inn at Highley. It’s where I stay. I have tried other places but this one has very good parking and good food. They are nice people. You have BAA stretches above and below. I would recommend the west side of the river where the Ship is situated. It is quieter (traffic wise). I really like the middle Severn and, whatever you have heard, it is far easier than we are used to! Have fun! 😀

Have a look on the Barbel Directory on here and pick 'Accommodation' There's a few options there too for the Middle Severn also, including some by the Ship at Highley👍

I'm a fan of Airbnb Keith!

Find a place you'd be happy to return to in the first instance close to your chosen venue, develop a good relationship with the hosts, and eventually ask the host if they'd be happy to book things directly with them & outside of the Airbnb site. You'll definitely get a slightly better rate by doing that.

That's what I'd concentrate on if I were in your shoes. Also look at the hosts site ratings to better match your expectations too. 😉
