New tackle

After a long wait for one to become available, combined with some heavy saving, a Witcher Bisterene Aerial and it arrives this week. And next season, it's going to be attached to a rod and used and won't be neatly placed in a glass fronted cabinet.

If you don't mind Howard, how much did it set you back? I understand if you don't want to say.

I think if you look at ones that have sold on eBay you get the idea! on the basis it's been acquired to use and cherish for as long as I am able to fish, I figured that spread over that period, it would be Ok! I will, however, be selling some of my other pins at some point to help balance the books.

That's a tad harsh Huge, the posts on this thread haven't been that bad, surely.....

Cheers, Dave.

No Dave, they have not been at all bad, in fact this is a reasonable thread.

I forgot to mention that I am going to try some 'circle' hooks with my maggots.

Warm regards,

Hugo

Howard, some of my female colleagues work on the principle that the price of a new outfit , divided by the number of times it is worn, is the real cost. Hopefully, if you apply the same thinking, your's will turn out to be very cheap. ;)

That's an excellent point Anthony. I have also worked out that it equates to two handbags and three pairs of shoes owned by Mrs Cooke, which represent about 25% of the total of such items owned. I have made a mental note of this (and have a copy of the receipts) just in case we have THAT conversation. The one slight flaw in my argument is that Mrs Cooke never borrows my centrepins.

On this basis my Barder is a snip and the Hexagraph half a snip!

Hugo

Apologies Howard, didn't want to get down to brass tacks about money, but looking at the rising prices of witcher reels you have invested very well.

Not a problem in the slightest Jeff. It arrived this week and is a delight. Very much looking forward to using next season. All the best.

Sounds lovely, Howard. I hope it screams at the earliest opportunity.

Talking of Hexagraphs, I treated myself to a secondhand 1.25lb Avon. Looking forward to using it.

Not that it's in Howard's league but I thought I might do a bit of fly fishing during the close season - brag it to fish hopefully get on a few streams in Dorset without spending an arm and a leg. So after weeks of browsing I bought a 9' cane 1936 Palakona perfection (£40) and a 7' 3-5 weight brook rod for less, an Orvis Battenkill reel, and an Allcocks Marvel reel (lovely thing) 5 weight forward floating line, tub of Mucelin, a few more flys, taper leaders... all off ebay. Now I'm all set up, but wait a minute, arrived today, my repaired Speedia from Garry Mills and now putting some 10lb Sensor onto it with my thoughts back on barbel. Fly fishing will have to wait another year I guess. Close season's costing me a fortune. One month to go.

Cap it all. Our washing line prop broke earlier so today I volunteered my twist lock landing net handle with the 'v' block on as an alternative, and blow me the lock mechanism's gone again. Better get that fixed pronto. Gaaaah

I love buying all the terminal tackle bits and bobs and then organising them all. I possibly have mild OCD. This will probably mean that my tackle bag will be packed and ready to go at least a week before the start of the season. This gives more time to take all the stuff out and put it in again just to double check I have everything I need.

I have also stocked up on many bottles of Good Oil. Magic stuff that.

Iv got more terminal tackle than anything. 250 rigs ready tied 120 leads pretty sure il not have to tie any rigs up or order any leads for the upcoming season lol
