Gerry Giles

Senior Member & Supporter
well my PB is 5lb 6 ozs this was 55 years ago in 1962 and now I am returning to Barbel fishing as your only young once !! I will be fishing about once a month on the Tidal Trent
thought it may bring a smile to see the picture sorry its a bit like me old and battered !
it was from the River Kennet at Burghfield (moon light trip) drilled ball 1.75 ozs lead 6llb line size 8 eyed hook 3 lobworms hooked once at the end ... bite indicator?.... line round index finger

Welcome back to the fold Gerry. You may have to beef things up a little for the Trent, the fish are a bit bigger these days! Lobworms still catch though.

Gerry I'm a regular on the TT and know relatively every stretch rather well. I can help with location, methods and even have a day out with you to get your PB.

Great picture, I love the customary fag hanging out the mouth.
Shouldn't take too long for you to break that PB on the tidal Trent, in fact I'll stick my neck out and say you'll break it with your first fish.

Hello Jon
thank you thats a brilliant offer ! I will you a PM

Old and battered...Nah
A new PB on the tidal Trent shouldn't pose a problem. But good luck anyway.

Jason
Blimey Jason thank you so much ! I have saved the unbattered picture of me lol

Gerry,
You are in for a super year. All barbel fight like stink, the bigger ones just do it for longer. So I hope you break your pb many times this year.
Good luck
Mike

Thanks for all the good wishes and advice folks
I will probably miss the first week of the season and let people that may have booked a week off of their hard earned holidays

as I`m retired now I can go anytime and stick to Mon to Thurs leaving weekends for the people that work all week
but you can be sure if and when I catch a new PB
I will let you know
thanks again

The very best of luck, Gerry. Fantastic pic and a good size fish back in those days. IMO you'd have more trouble trying to catch one smaller! :)

Just like a woman I am gonna change my mind lol

I will now fish part of the 1st week after all I got a wonderful invite from a forum member for a 24 hour session so my apprenticeship will begin !

then a few days later as its my 71st birthday (on the 22nd) and I thought what better way to spend it than on the bank of the mighty Trent so looking forward to it life is good big smile

Gerry, you're the same age as my dad who unfortunately doesn't venture out fishing anymore due to lack of interest,it's nice to see you're enthusiasm shine through in your post.Good luck and tight lines mate, you'll probably smash that old PB by some considerable way,not that it really matters though.
